Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Thank you once upon a time - I am an ex shift

I worked for CVS for over 12 years, loved my job i was a good employee. But one day i made a mistake and it caused me to endure one of the worst years of my life after i lost my job. I was working a 14 hours shift do to the manager being on vacation and we were short staffed. After 9 hours being by myself (another staff member called out) my help finally arrived. At that point i was very hungry, i ask someone pharmacy tech if she could cover me so i could get something to eat, she refused. I then made the MISTAKE, i gave my key or as yall say credenitals to my clerk member and ran accross the street. My LP rep came in and saw the keys and asked who keys are those, she told him my shift she ran to get some food. He ask did she use them she said yes. I was fired. I know i made a mistake and i lost my job, i did know better, but the pain of that year trying to find a job and feed my family was something i will never forget(for 6 of those months i was afraid to apply because i thought my company put something on my record). After asking around i went to apply and found a job working for a company that makes me feel happy that i lost my job. I am from another part of the country and a friend of mine told me about this site and i could not believe that a District manager did the same thing. Please keep us all updated because i know there are several out here waiting to find out them outcome.

Widow raising 2 kids, dont need added stress as SM. I'm fine for now. Also have a large 3 bedroom home. We are doing just fine.

Still half of what a SM makes. Add on an average bonus that a SM makes around 5-15k more a year. You can also be cut to 30hrs a week. That's less than 600 a week pre tax. SM is around 1350 a week. If u average in a 7k bonus SM is around 1550 a week.

Not sure what state you live in but 19/hr can't even afford a studio apartment in the worst part of New England.

$19.65 with guaranteed raises. Insurance benefits for family less than 500 year. Add savings to hourly.

I know a union is nice to have by your side but seriously if you had a chance to move up to a SM why wouldn't you? You say the benefits are better being a union shift?

What do you make 14-15:an hour? Most SM's are close to 30 an hour or more. And that's at 45hrs. 25k a year or 70k?

Not when scheduled alone. Manager drastically changed my schedule after 10 years as shift.

Upset that wanted to remain a shift. We are union A, anything above shift loses all union A benefits, which is the best of CVS trifold, union A, union B and corporate stores. A stores have cheapest and best benefits, use to be SavOn. Moving to asst/OP would lose over $8,000 per year.

So...I was scheduled Dec. 22, 23 6:30 to 2:30 with cashier due at 11 to 730.

Night was scheduled 1 shift and 1 cashier - 2:00-10:30.with another overlap cashier 4,:30-10:30.

Historically 22 & 23rd average $23,000-$28,000 in FS.

So I'm alone almost 5 hrs. Line non stop 7 to 15 deep, pharmacy call7ng for change and cashier assistance, photo runs out of film, assistance needed at kiosks which I can't do either, phone non stop, customers yelling at me. So I called my union rep explained past 2 days of scheduling, told to sign off and take by law a 15 minute break. So I signed off, apologized to customers in line, by law I was to take a 15 minute break, then walked out.

Customers shocked that manager would schedule me that way. Some had left most likely with product.

Morning shift, alone with just 3 hrs of overlap.

Night shift had 3 plus 1 more with 5 hrs overlap. My manager with CVS for 28 years, 25 as manager, retaliation, harrassment and bullying is his game.

Yes customers were mad. I would be too. As far as manager, nothing was ever said and day before Easter and following Dec. Had plenty of coverage .

You didn’t make a mistake, CVS failed YOU! A loyal 12 year employee? And that’s how they treat you? Common sense people, common sense! Everyone who is talking about cold rules is right! Any DM or RM, or LP/AP who cares more about rules than a persons physical well being should be fired!

Yeah fire the tech who refused to help, and fire the LP person for just following cold rules.

@Y1jubnU-iyc I agree it was an honest mistake, you don’t fire someone over that! Talk about being heartless! When you just follow cold rules and regulations and that’s all that matters, then that higher up should be fired for NOT using common sense. So let’s recap... you work 9 hours by yourself and get fired for an honest mistake?? WHY wasn’t that Pharmacy tech FIRED for refusing to help out?

A shift supervisor I know who has since left the company once told me that (in my district) there are TOO MANY managers working doubles! She told me, "never work a double!" Thankfully I've never had to work a double, and IF they ever asked me, I'd say no. However, the bigger issue is not the managers working the doubles, but the District Leaders who ALLOW it!

WOW, they fired you for that???!!! And AFTER you had worked the first 9 hours of a 14 hour shift by yourself?!? I will go on record and say that stupid LP person AND your DL should BOTH be fired!!! Why? I'll tell you why... for not standing up for you, after you were starving and needed food. What if you passed out and hit your head on the floor and were seriously hurt?? For crying out loud, we all know CVS is a terrible company, but this takes the cake! Yeah, I get the whole "rules thing", but IF you look at the circumstances surrounding the supposed infraction, YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND! I mean give me a break, you were working a 14 hour shift! It should be illegal at cvs to work a 14 hour shift! Talk about slave labor! And yet they fire you for a BASIC HUMAN NEED, simply because you didn't follow protocol in order to take care of that basic human need! That LP person is HEARTLESS, and I'm not surprised at all, because most LP, and DL's are nothing more than corporate shrews!

Yeah that’s really all you had to do, but your are better off finding a new a gig. Without that push you probably would e sat around and made the same mistake most of us do and continue to bleed , sweat and lose countless hours of sleep over this terrible company. Good luck to you and your new career.

You should of used the shift delegation button on the register then you would of been ok and not fired. Clerks cover management lunches all the time and we are instructed to give them our keys
