I've been a regular reader of "seagate layoffs" for quite a while and 99% of the stuff posted about layoffs is utter bullsh11t.There is not one contributer that knows what is going happen,its all lies and fantasies.People scaremongering just for the sake of it.

Those are hynix drives branded as Seagate
Actually Seagate does sell Seagate branded M.2 256 and higher GB drives for laptops. It's right on the website: https://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/ssd/. If we had a policy to use these in every employee laptop though, it would probably mean taking a loss on every one. A storage company that only gives 256 GB on employee laptops is also a sad testimony in contrast to the message that people want and need huge storage on there personal computers.
@211h
That policy was no longer enforced since those responsible personnel still there
Off corse !!!!! Thats the f---ng problem !!!!!!
I don't think Seagate makes notebook SSDs so they can't use its own drives.
I think the policy to use the Seagate drives in PCs is mostly due to there is no longer any personnel to manage or enforce the program and what little local IT support remains already has their hands full just maintaining machines and has no time to be ordering replacement STX drives.
Trust me, many of the poster here are not even a seagate employee.
But what they said are not 100% bs coz they was once a seagate employee just like you and was being let go. (I am one of them)
So dont feel too comfortable with this company, jump off this sunken ship as soon as you can.
If you still think this is bs. Let me tell you that there was once a policy in seagate that all computer need to use seagate drive and now what, can you find any machine that has seagate drive on seagate pc catalog?
How would you expect this company to survive when even the company itself wont use its own products?
I was one who was "marched" out in 2014...It WAS no surprise then just as it will be no surprise to you (if chosen) to be among the laid off now. Yes, there is no warning on your day...but everyone will know that a particular day is the LAY-OFF day. We all did...Your manager will show up at your "cube" and ask you to accompany him toan office or conf rm where the local HR rep and he will tell you youre being let go. You then have 30 minutes to gather your personal belongings and HR will escort you to the door. It's that simple...
Been checking in on this site for a few years now and while it's true that most of the posts are annoying (lies/misdirected anger/unsubstantiated rumors/dey terk er jerbs types), quite a few events were predicted- SJL retiring, 3-4 layoff dates, office building shutdowns.. So while ~75% of the stuff I find on here is useless to me, I keep checking for the rest! Also, the odd opinion piece is pretty good.
There are still some high level people who care about employees and they do leak to give some advance warning because the shock does impact people significantly and a leak might lessen the blow a little. Of course, most senior people are heartless SOBs.
Well, since no prior notice is typical 1,000's of people come here so they are not totally surprised. There are actually high level people that leak layoff information on this site. I can confirm very senior people have confirmed that true leaks do appear on this site.
I have been reading this for quite a while also and while the dates and numbers are not exact - directionally it is correct.
