I can tell you that where I work, the mgrs. do care, or most of them. The higher up you go in mgmt. the more scared they are of the mgmt. level above them but they do appreciate the employees. The older ALU and Cascade mgmt. is better. The legacy Lucent mgmt. can go either way. The US engineers are far superior in many ways for the most part. There are other engineers in other regions that are also sharp but the ratio is not as high as in the US. Our division when we were ALU made 48% of the company's profit and now Nokia seems to not be able to have positive cash flow. I don't know where the money is going but it is like a ruptured intestine and bodily fluids leaking into the body, inducing sepsis. They have done a good job in some areas of cost savings like closing some buildings and other areas but the constant layoffs to offset the continued losses will not solve the problem overall, it is like putting bandaid on an arterial bleed. They have to fix the root cause and the positive cash flow then and only then can begin. By constantly laying off good engineers, esp in :high cost center" US and some other areas outside the US only hurts the company as they cannot recover with mediocre employees and very talented employees leave to go some other company when they see openings and u are left with essentially some excellent employees and the bottom of the barrel. As far as 5G, someone above said Ericcson is a better product and they are correct and I see a mixture and Nokia currently but that could soon change to go towards more Ericcson equipment but for some markets they are all Nokia and some are all Ericcson, but like said before, if we do not do well in 5G, we will be in bad shape. In regards to India support, there are some very good engineers that I work with but that only constitutes 1/3 and the other 2/3 could disappear and it would not matter, as they are mediocre at best, but oh yes they are cheaper and saves the company money so upper mgmt. can get these outrageous compensation packages and even raises. Hell, I have gotten only 2 raises since 2006 and it is a shame. If the CEO can get a 5% raise last year, everyone should be eligible for raises, especially talented employees. Other countries outside the US, by law are required to get cost of living raises, i.e. China, Canada, but not US. Why you think some companies are bringing manufacturing jobs back to US? the products may cost more but are more durable and not some no-name television you can buy at Walmart for $100 and it dies in 1 1/2 yrs. Look at LL Bean, all their manufacturing is in the US and stuff is well made. Why can't we do the same? Cards failing and having to replace them costs money and if they were made better like when we had manufacturing in the US many years ago we wold be saving money. Maybe we should change our name to Nokia-Mart
