Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Hurt my heart today

I had an interview today and the prospective sales rep asked “why would a company work with you instead of going right to the manufacturer.”

Normally, this question leads me to a very passionate place! With us, customers get the best of both worlds! We are uniquely positioned to respond immediately to any challenge our customer has. We have local sales, local service, local decision making, local billing, local delivery. We have a personal relationship with every department and have the ability to gets things done instantly. All this with having the greatest technology in the world and one of the U.S.’ most iconic brands behind us. We are not perfect, but we all work together on a daily basis as a true team to take care of every customer whether they pay us $34 a month or $34,000 a month.

I could usually go on and on about customer stories, career stories and personal stories from each market I’ve worked in, but today, for the first time, it hit me that soon I might not be able to say these things anymore.

Xerox and Global (XBS) are a perfect marriage.

What could have a fairytale ending...

a historic company born in Astoria, Queens saved from a Japanese takeover by a Queens born entrepreneur, opened up the worlds future technology to local people across the world...

Could also be tragically broken.

With all the offices closing, it's going to be hard to tout the "local" angle. And if rumors about things being "centralized" (overseas?) happen, who will want to do business with us anyway? Things had been pretty good under Global (XBS) and now all of a sudden, everything is crashing down around us.

It’s very sad to watch the culture we had be torn apart right in front of our eyes. Everything we have prided ourselves in dismantled in the matter of weeks. I guess all I can say is thanks for taking 12 years to acknowledge us. Over that 12 years we all made tons of money went on some great trips and had some amazing success stories.
