Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Want to leave, but I don't want to end up in worse situation

Once before i took a job based on information received during the hiring process just to find that it was completely different deal than I anticipated once I started. I left soon after.

Now I'm trying to get a new job and leave Thomson Reuters but I'm afraid to have the same thing happen. Any ideas on how to get a sense of environment at a new job before actually committing and burning the bridge to your previous employment?

It's always a good idea to get the resume together, give the situation serious thought, and begin networking. It's really helpful to set up networking meetings with people, even if you aren't ready to leave just yet.

It gives you great information. When I was part of the RIF in November, I already had great leads.

cfv - You really are an arse****.

@XvvBDNV - I think most people have the same concerns when changing positions. The process is arduous so it helps if you can get it right first time.

Glass door is one option. However, View with an open mind as there a lot of disgruntled ex-employees on there who is see it as a platform to just rant.

See if any of your network on LinkedIn work or have links to people at the organisation

See if the company you are applying for, features in any best company lists - e.g. Times list

The interview process is a 2 way thing - 1) do they they want you and 2) do you want them ?

During the interview you can ask some probing questions. e.g

How did the role come about ?

What would be expected of you in first 3-6 and 12 months ?

What are some of the biggest challenges the person in role would face ?

What training / career development would be available ?

If you got offered the role, you could then ask if it is possible to meet some of the team.

Hope this helps.

Amazing how nasty some people can be in these replies when hiding under "Anonymous." It doesn't help to be unkind,

Maybe the OP has done those searches and still found the environment different. No need to be a prick.

“I am on the titanic, and i have a life boat, but maybe thats as bad as the titanic, how do i, duh, tell”

Oh my goodness.

Yeah talk to other people who work there. Oh and glassdoor. And general reputation.

Never thought to do a search on this, huh?
