Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Can you still receive severance if rehires by TR as an employee?

Do you know of anyone who continues to receive severance after being rehired by TR? I recently learned of someone who is saying he is receiving both severance and a paycheck as a rehire. Is this possible?

Yes it is possible. I know many people let go by the other company that are getting severance from TR and now employed again by TR. This is probably working because what TR likes to do is pay the other company your severance and then the other company is supplying the severance check. Also, since this wasn't a "rebadge" situation that makes you a full Ref employee which is why you are allowed to come back into TR right away and you don't have to wait the full year. Pretty slick and kudos to those that are getting to take advantage of this perk!

No you don’t. The person most likely got their last severance check for the time they were unemployed before restarting TR.

Wait - being laid off by TR to find a new job with TR, or laid off by Ref but finding a new job with TR?

And which country? Non-competes in the US are controversial, and may not be enforceable.

According to the HR rep who gave me my severance agreement, any employment with TR (or with a competitor that violates the non-compete clause) during the term of the agreement terminates the agreement.
