I don't know what the answers are any more than anyone else. I just know that there was a time where I enjoyed working for this company. There has been so much chaos and confusion the last few years that it just is demoralizing.
Some of us have stayed either due to loyalty, the local job markets being poor or out of sheer determination. None of those reasons make sense anymore (they probably never did).
Maybe there are campus locations thriving, but most are hurting pretty badly.
At some point we have to move on. Nothing lasts forever and short of Jeff Bezos bumping his head and trying to buy the company I don't see a return to any of the high points in Follett history.
Everything that has been tried has been a bandaid on a mortal wound. IncludED is too complicated to implement and campuses and students are opting out. Cengage Unlimited essentially reduces the importance of the bookstore. OER is becoming more pervasive (and rightfully so as far as I am concerned). While there have been some in-roads with digital integration it just hasn't been enough.
When you are a jack of all trades and master of none, your weakness are exposed. Right now we aren't the clear, unchallenged leader in any significant aspect of the industry. Having the highest number of physical locations doesn't count.
I wish everyone the best. Hopefully you know your worth and can find peace and prosperity. It's been a nice run.
