Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

How many more strategic blunders can investors take from this incompetent executive mana garment team?

Company is totally lost now and our clients don’t know wtf is going on

The only way we can win business these days is undercutting everybody else on price while eroding our own profit margins

Here is just a brief list of our most recent strategic catastrophes:

  1. Late to the US shake market and totally uncompetitive in US land

  2. Total internal confusion around the transformation fiasco

  3. Smith acquisition failure and loss of market leadership since we bought them

  4. Multi billion dollar losses from financing bankrupt Latin American oil companies to buy our integrated services

  5. Laid off swathes of experienced managers leaving inexperienced 30 year olds to run the company via their iPhones. Our customers are left in total confusion

  6. Underperforming share price but our CEO is overpaid making millions in bonuses while the company tanks.

Need I go on? WTF is happening and when will we see a change in leadership to get us out of this hole?

Halliburton predicted the future of shale and positioned themselves for it

SLB took an intellectual position and strategic decision that it was too low tier for them

Biggest blunder in the last 10 years together with buying all the business via financing bankrupt Latin American oil companaies

  1. Cant predict the future. For every company that got it right there were 5 that got it wrong. What make a leader is how you control it and how quickly you can react when you get it wrong which will be most of the time for all companies. We all work under a slightly controlled risk/trial and error at every company.

  2. Still have no idea what the common goal of SLB is? What does SLB do?

  3. Comes down to no one knowing what is going on and have a huge disconnect with customers.

  4. Cant predict the future.

  5. Yeah, firing employees is not how you control costs. You control the work they do or dont do to control costs. They had it backwards. They should have only been getting rid of the low performers and finding something revenue generating for the experienced people to work on. Before laying off good workers, how many potential projects did they discuss that we could try before we went to layoffs?

  6. Stock price means nothing, it is fake based on whatever stock market people want the price to be. No one has control of stock price except those who sell it and those who buy it, they agree what the price will be. A company cant control the share price.
