The CEO matters provided an outstanding CEO could turn Seagate around. I'm not sure there is a CEO who could turn around a company with a mature and declining technology that has no second act. Perhaps a super-CEO could play his hand better, but its still a losing hand.

The CEO matters

1 - Communication of strategy and not the 3 circles slide we have been seeing for over a year. What is the strategy? Tell us!

2 - Don't execute a cash flow the business strategy for the benefit of the activist investor and then tell employees we are doing something different

3 - Don't have the corporate killer be the corporate strategist. Give Ravi this position and he will cut all to the bone. ( What the f does Ravi know about corporate strategy? He is barely a CIO)

4 - Tell us the plan for SSD and systems and then tell us how bleak HDD truly is

5 - A good CIO would have fired ponytail a long time ago and not when hamr does not work and we have to go start mamr all over again

6- Good CEO would have bought some relevant companies to grow revenue

CEO matters

Implicit in the top post is that a new CEO could make a difference. I'm not sure it matters.

Funny thing is he might be talking about himself. Didn’t mention the second word after the hyphen. And it might come true with the impending layoff to meet the margin. We are all @Xp1bQAM. And they are not.

"Who wants a massive layoff to get rid of stupid people like @Xp1bQAM?"

The reason Seagate is so full of stupid people is because the constant threat of layoffs has pushed many of the capable people to leave the company. It is like a filter that gets rid of the wheat and keeps the chaff.

The forecast is revenue within 5 percent of 2.3b at 26 percent gross margin. This is about 2.18b revenue and gross profit of 560. Operating expenses at 360 leaves 200 to barely cover dividend.

I would expect a 5 to 10 percent 20 to 35 m cut to op ex to give STX some room this quarter. If you're not working with customers directly or in r and d and working on cloud products be mentally prepared.

WD is currently closing 2 factories in Malaysia and reiterated during their earnings call. Go listen to the call or reach the transcript. Guys - it is happening - the HDD biz has to resize to be viable and profitable. In all the secret meetings going on with VPs this is what they are plotting. When Nygaard came to your US site last month - was he honest with any one about layoffs? No. Wll Mosley be honest at upcoming all hands? Of course not.

It does not make any money and has decreased revenue by at least 40 percent in the last year in a market that has been growing. It has no value and will need to pay a company to take it. Shutting it down is the only option.
