Why Doing Layoffs In Stages, Instead of one big whack ?

Are they doing all this in stages to keep it out of the headlines. Why are they not doing it in one big whack.

I left with 40+ years during round 2 in June 2018. Company said this day would come if they didnt get enough volunteers. While sad, it's not a surprise, and those who are impacted now should have seen this coming. Praying for all.

I agree stealth layoffs and avoid the media, since the merger 6,500 employees quietly lost to reductions and counting... every week quietly dozens of employees are losing their jobs. Under the radar and out of sight of the general public and media.

I think you hit the nail on the head: avoiding media.

You have not been here very long I take it, this is business as usual, stealth layoffs, you don't know who is gone unless you have to work with them and try to call or email and nobody answers, or you get a reply address not found.

Been that way since Qwest bought / merged US West. First a VSPP package is issued, usually it has a target number or used to, not anymore it looks like a open request. Then comes the stealth layoffs, they fear retaliation in some areas, sabotage of the Network or planned demonstrations that get to the media.
