Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

In a very short period of time this company has become the worst place to work

This company has become one very sad place to work. I logged on this morning to find that I am now monitored as to where I am logging in from. I am also to understand that they will be monitoring our activity on our computers. What next BIG BROTHER! In a very short period of time this company has become the worst place to work. The economy is not in the bag, our company was not doing bad, obviously room for improvement but not bad, this individual has created a hostile environment, taken away any work life balance. He shoves diversity down our throats, really, what about the individuals that have a family? He has made the environment so that it is close to impossible to have both! We are all over worked and have been now for years he has removed any bit of flexibility and all his managers are walking robots spewing the ridiculousness of his thoughts and theories and implementing them all with not a blink. DO NOT WORK for this company. One of the best places to work are now one of the worst! Where is our Board you are letting this man destroy this beautiful company, all very very sad!

This couldn't be any truer, so I bumped this post from @X7W85mm-gphc .

Welcome to 21st century. Like yogy say the future ain't like it used to be. You have been monitored for a while and to assume otherwise is silly. Everything you do on the company's machines or premises is monitored. The company hired you not your family. Harsh yes, but true. No one is obligated to work at BNY or anywhere else. No one or company owes anyone anything if not earned. The board is loyal to shareholders and noone else. If board cared about employees they would be at your Town Halls.

For those of you who were laid off with a package, be thankful. Some of us were given an ultimatum and told if you said no, then you were resigning and you get nothing, no severance, no unemployment. This happened to me and it’s really pathetic. I’ll be writing a letter to the board next week, just for my own peace of mind.

I worked very hard. I ruined my health, i didnt have proper food for days, I even worked so many extra hours without OT and finally they lay off me. Reason for lay off is left unexplained. Cruel and mean

Oh so your so rich Charles you do not need to be at home to wait for the furnace/plumber or any maintenance person to come, right you have people that can do that for you. so you would either have someone call off sick then have them work from home and have a productive day. I get more work done at home then coming into work, to many distractions in the office. We have worked so hard for this bank.

Board of Trustees please he is ruining a great group of hard-working people here in Pittsburgh. Something has to be done get rid of him vote him out.

The “new” Cisco jabber seems to have much more Monitoring features implemented. The other comments are correct. The technology is there, in addition, although very expensive, key stroke monitoring is also in place. This CEO should not have this much time interest and money put into the employees work from home. That is the managers job. I work for a department that has received acclaim of excellent work and productivity and we have met our annual requirements. The WFH program was a very effective program that created and produced a better work life balance, in return, produced more work getting done and being done well. News flash Mr CEO we are a global company, collaboration is done by using our technology. The majority of us do not collaborate with people in the same location. He lacks complete knowledge of our company. Anyway, The department was happy. Anyone who works here knows are annual increases are very minimal. The bonuses are also not competitive BUT the people who work here believe in this company and the flexibility is what kept us here. Again this man is destroying this beautiful company. For 10 years our department has had WFH, and it works. We will loose people, many people, people who were productive excellent employees.if they are replaced they will be replaced with less experience and an individual of less quality, let’s be honest, who will work here???! He can’t bring all his cronies he doesn’t have 50,000 of them. I get it, the Board wants the stock price up some things need change...... BUT what in the world is he getting out of this change except getting rid of execellent employees..... and that stick price hasn’t done much...... I hope something happened soon. I have always loved my job and took a great deal of pride in my job and I do it well....... I lost all faith in who and what I work for!

It's called "Produce-or-Perish" management. It works for a short time, but it alienates employees and isn't tenable in the long term (most studies show this). Top management's end game is to show a profit, reap short-term rewards, and move on to another company before it erodes -- as it inevitably does.

More about this approach below.

Also known as "authoritarian" or "authority-compliance" managers, people in this category believe that their team members are simply a means to an end. The team's needs are always secondary to its productivity.

This type of manager is autocratic, has strict work rules, policies and procedures, and can view punishment as an effective way of motivating team members. This approach can drive impressive production results at first, but low team morale and motivation will ultimately affect people's performance, and this type of leader will struggle to retain high performers.

The login/logout times and locations have been tracked since I've started working here back in 2015, so it's nothing new. What can be new is the fact that they might finally use that data to catch people who are WFH but have not submitted the WFH form that HR is requiring.

How can you tell that you are being monitored? I want to check mine.

And I agree with everything you said

I would assume the board was notified of these changes when chuckie was hired. Bob Kelley wanted to layoff during worse times and he was canned.
