Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Clueless engineering staff

Many replacements were hired but with only new grads. Now you have a double whammy of clueless engineering staff who need hand holding from the Sr staff. That only drags down productivity more.

I agree with the cutting back on tools. In their continuing shortsighted effort to cut down on expenses, good software tools and support staff went away. I now see engineers having to spend hours figuring out why their laptop cannot log onto the network.

Very well put @XjSu4nT-3eft .

Exactly. Take control and leave if you have to. Stop whining

People are just starting to learn that the execs are just blowing smoke and have been pulled along with lies to keep them working and not leaving. The Seagate funded IDC report that says 10 zettabytes by 2025 or whatever the silly number is now is not real and fabricated by stx execs. By 2025 the majority of data will be on NAND and HDD will be battling with tape for single digit share.

Don't blame people for believing but it is time to wake up

Decisions made by Seagate senior staff: what the fukc did you expect? They are a bunch of finance wonks, not technologists. They don't see a smart engineer as a long-term asset. They see them just as kindling, like a piece of newspaper, to burn up fast and get the fire going. The fire being the value of the stock holdings of the senior staff. Duh, as donut eater would say.

ONLY SOLUTION: engineers need to look after their own interests and LEAVE SEAGATE. Unless you trust senior staff to look after your interests...

What a bunch of whiners. I feel sorry for your inability to take control of your own lives and be happy. Stop blaming, take responsibility and take ownership.

So all engineers are assumed to be IT network experts. All engineers need to be chemical, mechanical, industrial, computer, and software masters. I see how it is. You can't even fix your effing toilet yourself. That's what I think.

Yes ! Especially if you are a mechanic and can’t fix your own car. Duh!

If you can't fix your own car and are not as smart as an auto mechanic, you don't deserve to drive one either.

If engineers can’t figure out how to get on to the network, and take hours, they deserve to be booted out.
