Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Expected more gloom and doom

From the earlier posts on this site about the bloodbath that was supposed to happen by February 1st, I'm quite surprised that things weren't as bad as projected. I understand it may be ongoing throughout the years(s), but I guess I had expected more posts with serious layoff numbers. I'm actually seeing the trend go the other way with hiring going on, people going to training, all-hands meetings talking about all the good things to come. It's a bit different than I had expected from a company going public with alot of debt on hand.

Dell is continuously laying off people so the numbers don't show up as too high, avoiding the requirement to report the layoffs to the government. I was let go 2 years ago, and the group I worked in had 16 people. They now have 4, with the rest being laid off over the last two years, and the jobs shifted offshore. Two of the four that remain are the first line manager and the director.
