Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Do any of your managers discuss how your store is doing?

Most times ours will tell us how sales are, but I think when we're doing really poorly, she'll skip it.

I've asked on occasion and I'll get the look of death.

The SMs know what’s going on. THEY KNEW well in advance what was going to happen Feb 2018.

If they say they didn’t... the DM didn’t trust them to keep their mouths shut or they’re LYING.

The look of death? I've gotten that more than a few times. If this is the case, you might want to let things slide with this particular manager, or you might not last to the next round of layoffs.

Your best course for the straight dope is one of the ASMs, particularly one who's been around for awhile--like, some years. Usually they'll know the lay of the land better than the SM. If they're new to the company, of course, forget about it, because they won't know squat, or they'll be MBA types--which is the worst, because this means that they got an MBA and are so dumb that they can't get on with a hedge fund or something, and have to settle for retail.

The look of death is really pretty telling; if you get it with a simple question, that's not good. This means that they've been told something fairly close to the truth, and the truth, in this case, isn't happy. When something makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, there's usually a good reason for it. Reading through various threads here should make you realize what the look of death means.

Just some simple truths. Do with them what you may.
