Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Ex-Proud IBMer

I was a proud IBMer but saw the decline and the writing on the wall and retired under my own terms before I got tapped for reduction. This was 5 years earlier than I had originally planned but as I said was on my terms rather than forced so I am fortunate in that aspect. It is sad to see the direction this once proud company is going in, but my stress levels have definitely decreased.

Worked at IBM for 30 years. Left for a competitor on my terms.

Not sure if I would miss the travel bans, paying my own expenses, corporate spyware on my PC and forced review ranking.

My recent experience suggests you don't need these things to thrive.

I left IBM under my own terms as well. As a consultant now I have worked on a few IBM projects and the churn I encounter is incredible. I never work with anyone for long before a new IBM resource takes the place of an in country one. The work is re-re-outsourced to a lowest cost country. This must be very stressful for those in IBM.

I worked for IBM for 39 years, got out in 2013. For the first 30 years I was happy working there, the last 9 years I hated it. And when I left they really treated me badly, ripped me off like they didn’t owe me a thing for giving them all those years of service. 🤬

I hope IBM burns.
