Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Maybe something close to happening?

There seems to be a lot of urgency within my group over the last few weeks to get projects done as quickly as possible. Really not sure if someone knows something is coming soon, or it's just a general effort to look as good as possible.

Jimmy boy sure does seem to want to drag this out. This is a disaster for morale and has been handled so poorly... Week after week of "Well, we might lay people off, or not, maybe this month, or the end of this quarter." Sometimes seems like it might just be better to exit on my own terms than continue to deal with a company that can't seem to make up its mind about what it's going to go. Weeks and months of not being able to plan securely for the future is getting pretty old.

Who would be invited to these meetings, only those that will be laid off?

Quality and R&A will be done with their reorg this coming week. Conference rooms have been reserved for 3/12-3/14. Employees will be given their AICP and papers on where they stand in the new org. Leaders were seen taking training on how to deliver the let-go speech last week. Layoffs are coming.

Layoffs will start happening in April or be announced in April according to this article. They will target older white collar employees according to this article. Since that is illegal, I would assume they would have to balance that out with other younger workers.

This article says engineering and vehicle development are targeted. That is not going to give Ford the 20k plus layoffs they want so not sure how valid this article is.

There is definitely tension in the air. The article does get that right. A lot more conference room usage and management walking around in packs in my building. Contractors have been been quietly being asked to go the last two weeks.

The thing is, I'm not convinced that it would be much better anywhere else. We're at a point now where companies exist to produce profit margins and returns for shareholders, that's it. There's no concern for providing a stable, rewarding career for any employee anymore. We need much better representation and rights for workers in this country if this is ever going to stop, and not in the form of something like the UAW that has become its own self-serving entity at this point. Real worker representation that won't stand for companies hollowing themselves out and cutting costs just for the sake of showing a higher profit margin and raising a stock price.

I went through this in 2008 with Ford Credit. We were told in Phoenix our office would be closed one year prior to closure! We had to apply for and interview for same job had been doing for 8 years in New office in Henderson Nevada. Talk about demoralizing. The best people said heck with it and found better jobs. That is what I did. Others waited to have the ax fall for a small layoff package. I say leave because they layoffs just continue and for those who stay anxiety never goes away and it becomes very very cutthroat. Your choice, how do you want to live.
