Q has spent years and years 'diversifying' and SM has lead the charge. Can anyone really name a success ? Perhaps Atheros but holy cow that was a looooooong time ago. The entrenched old school execs and senior leaders have proven inept at growing outside of 'core mobile'. Datacenter was a huge fiasco.

Homegrown (“organic” as it is called in current business lingo) automotive looks like a winner. Was auto begun under SM? Please ignore the failed NXP acquisition and $2B breakkup fee as that was not organic although an SM brilliant idea.
Diversifying failed; so onward with divesting.
The rewarmed cellphone parts are not attractive to other markets AT ALL.
While growing outside the core with recycled smartphone parts was a failed bit, picking an avoidable fight against Apple is his signature piece. An emotional over rational decision has put the company in peril. Couple that with a very immature, inexperienced management team and you have a disaster. I will have my popcorn ready for the analyst day.
