Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Pay reductions

with the new company there may be widespread changes affecting employee wages and benefits as part of a greater expense control plan. In all likelihood ESL’s lawyers and advisors have already assessed current pay scales and benefit costs, and that analysis could prompt some drastic cuts to both depending on state labor laws.

ESL may also require certain employees to reapply for their same positions by realigning their duties and rebranding job titles. Then they’ll put those combined jobs up for internal recruiting

Sadly, this sounds like the most likely option going forward. There might not be layoffs, but expect reductions in pay and benefits across the board.

They pay minimum wage unless you are in liquidation and get hired for that. They will then pay a competitive wage for retail.

@1jwb I hope you are being sarcastic. We have not received any raise or increase. All of our new hires are seasonal hires that were kept on and are earning minimum wage. We are a Sears A store.

@1jwb, I used to work for Sears and what you said is very good news for the current employees. Am I right in hearing that everyone, all departments received some type of hourly adjustment? It's nice to hear something positive that benefits the employees.

We used to, if hired after a certain date work for minimum wage with no raises in sight. Our state minimum wage is higher than than the federal so when it went up, those who had been earning more through raises, weren't or only earning a few cents more than minimum. You really couldn't get ahead.

To clarify for anyone dropping in on this thread this is another regurgitation of an old thread that was posted a month or two ago.

All the recent threads are retreads. Not sure who is doing this or why but let’s clear this up.

We were all given a raise with a late March early April effective date plus additional commission bonuses.

Anyone saying they work at sears for minimum wage is full of it. Even the new hires get more than that.

None of this should surprise anyone.....Eddie's modus operandi has been to cut and slash to attempt a return to profitability which resulted in bankruptcy.

What will Eddie do any differently post-bankruptcy......probably more of the same...cut and slash...There is really nothing Sears has anymore to make it competitive with other retailers.

@XP7PWyy-rph That is probably what Eddie wants.

I realize it is pure speculation at this time but I expect it to happen also based on Eddie's and ESL's statements to the court and also to the press. The new Sears has to be careful with what the OP is saying. If enough current employees say NO to reduced pay and benefits and leave either right away or in the very near future without replacements in place Sears could be left without enough employees to keep the store open. This is exactly what happened on a smaller scale here in California with another retailer. The employees responded with a resounding NO and the retailer ended up closing a bunch of locations.

You guys are paid at or near minimum wage? Fook that. Come work in service lol starting pay with no exp 18 -23 an hr plus complete paid training. Once foot in door request to become a generalist appliance Technician and pay is outstanding! No way I could ever work or should I say slave for that kinda low pay.

More like people probably quitting if they make you doing a billion things at once with sh-- pay. Which probably is what they want to happen. Since, if you quit, they don't owe them any unemployment or severance.
