Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

Weird how this thread is showing the last post as 5 months ago; but it was actually 4 days ago.
Maybe this will freshen it.

@important customers.........are they serious? have any of the execs seen the customer comments on social media? the customers haven’t been happy in years. @metlife holding.....don’t know much about this area, but it sounds like working conditions are miserable.

Regarding the hiring of retiree’s they are not MetLife retiree’s. A retiree from another company was tipped off about a job at Met, and once hired, called other retired colleagues from the other company and offered them job opportunities.

About the hiring in MetLife Holding and hiring retirees. That makes sense.

MetLife, due to their strategy, has, is and will suffer attrition of talent. With the talent, goes the institutional knowledge. Hiring retirees would be one way to try to get that knowledge back before resuming transferring it to India.

No faith in the current CEO and CFO. This company has been going downhill for years and all the current leadership can talk about is how important the customers are? Really because Met has done nothing but hurt it’s internal and external customers for like, forever.

It seems like the layoffs expected by the end of 2019have been completed, yes? Seems like a lot of hiring is going on in MetLife Holdings, and in a department near me, I hear that they are hiring retiree’s?

Haven't heard much about Warsaw, Poland. Seems Noida, India must have won out.

Anyone know?

@ysul...... agreed, talented old-timers truly get cast aside all of the time. particularly when middle management refuses to recognize talent. It’s how they feed their need to control their people.

@Completely disagree........ truth, a lot of us would have a life changing severance package coming our way, but there don’t seem to be a lot of glimmers of hope for obtaining those. It seems that the company would prefer people leave, (attrition and don’t replace=cost effective), then have to pay out packages. I’ve been awaiting that pkg for 5 years now...... and nothing.

@wsmj: Why should a TPA be able to do the work any more cost effectively than MetLife?

Are the managers not as good? Are the processes inefficient? Are the employees as productive per dollar of salary? Does the TPA pay less than the $15 MetLife minimum wage for US only employees?

Sadly, probably all of the above. Hence the strategy to send work to Noida when possible.

Nevertheless, MetLife still needs many more of the talented old-timers than it cares to admit.

Perhaps the CFO can take a long needed look at the individuals in leadership who lack the sophistication to be able to recognize what sort of talent and skills are needed for the work that needs to be done. Currently, work is being assigned to already overworked staff who, if they don’t have the skill set needed for a particular assignment, are forced to figure things out on their own with no support, opening up an avenue for processes to take more than twice the amount of time and the risk of human error. There are also a lot of highly paid staff who have a ton of capacity and are being paid to do work that could easily be done in a more cost effective manner by a TPA. In 12 years with the company all I can do is shake my head.

Re: MetLife Holdings -- What it means is that it should never have been under an IT guy in the first place. Steve is leaving and Marty got a clue to leave at the same time as the next CEO wants his own guy.

Hey? This is a public forum and people are entitled to voice concerns, thoughts, opinions, facts, rumors, and whatever. “Kindly” suggesting facts guy or anybody else refrain from participating in the conversation is not fair. His comment suggests that he was defending commenters right to their own beliefs, and since none of us own this page, who is anyone to decide who can participate and who shouldn’t?

You're a facts guy huh? Well then, why not sit and wait for a company announcement via email and stop looking at a rumors website. If you have no value to add then I kindly suggest you refrain from participating in the discussion.

Sheesh, some of you folks need to relax? So what if some people want facts, and others think rumors are more helpful. I am a facts guy, and that’s how I roll so I find very little here that’s helpful in learning about MetLife’s strategy but to each his or her own!

Completely disagree, the more information that I can get about MetLife strategy the better. It allows us to prepare our own strategy. Personally with the severance pay I would get, it could literally change my life, and any glimmers of hope of obtaining that are very much appreciated. I have foreseen so many redundancies in the past, just by paying attention. If you're not interested in rumors, then why are you even here? Yes, it's is the whole point of the website...

Don’t see any suspicious or optimistic posts just people who are nervous and trying to separate facts from speculation for a better understanding of the overall strategy. Continuing to post rumors or “grapevine” conversations hardly seems to be a way to support and help each other. I have been with Met for over 15 years and it’s impossible to figure out what’s happening on so many levels.

I had the exact same thoughts about the suspicious optimistic posts that offered nothing but general downplaying (there is plenty of stuff here that has come to fruition) . I think that the best we can do is to ensure we keep posting with rumors we hear and facts about layoffs. It would be great if we could get some friends in high places but of course management would rarely give hints about this sort of thing.

Note that the prior two posts that cast doubt on the information here were posted on a Monday morning between 7am and 9am EST.

Most would. But not if it was your job to manage Met's image.

I agree with “Nobody has a clue”, as in many area’s of MetLife, people are getting paid a lot of money to do work that most TPA’s could easily handle for a lot less. MetLife does not seem to let go of employees as easily as it is indicated in many of these posts.

Nobody has a clue what’s happening.... this is all speculation. There may be a few layoffs here and there but it doesn’t seem that there will be any big layoffs going forward. For the past few years, very few posts on the “Lay-off” site have actually come to fruition.

@more than talk....... seems like the 2 Dublin posts indicate MetLife selling off pieces in Europe, so it is not clear at all what the strategy is!

Upper management isn't going to publicize the strategy, but you will hear them talk of "centers of excellence". More than talk, watch and see what is happening.

Does this apply to MetLife Holdings? Associates are scattered everywhere. It would seem that with closed blocks, a lot of the work might be easily outsourced to TPA’s or perhaps Noida? Scary times for so many here at Met.

Most long time employees have the strategy of taking severance and finding a new job, I assume. Short term employees may just say to heck with the severance and seek new employment before doom day arrives.
