Customers (and I speak from years of experience) in our stores, want a smooth, quick, and easy checkout process. That won't ever happen as it would require more cashiers, which cvs will not allow, and not having 21 questions at the register, which cvs will also not stop doing. The other things customers want is to have the pharmacy open anytime the store is open. Customers HATE that the pharmacy closes early on weekends! I get dirty looks all the time on weekend nights because customers are flabbergasted the pharmacy closes so early. Cvs is not gonna change that anytime soon either. And with Q4 results not good, and 2019 guidance being tempered and now called a "transition" year, it's not looking good for the stores. I see a few stores here and there being closed/consolidated as a cost cutting measure and I see hours being tightened even further as DL's will be given strict orders to get expenses under control at all costs. Layoff's at higher levels possible and redundant positions eliminated, but I could also see store level lay-offs possible for long time veterans who make too much money in corporates eye's. Cvs is now officially in damage control mode and the modus operandi for 2019 will be CUT, CUT, CUT. Mr. Merlo will want to make cvs as lean as possible to raise profits and make investors happy. As far as hub stores, I think their a good idea. It will take time to see/know if they will do well, but I do think a mix of health hubs, regular stores and stores with glamsquad beauty departments, will do well, with a general reduction in the overall number of stores. Cutting expenses to raise profits and bring back the stock price to please investors will be the key to 2019! Just my 2 cents, but gonna be a tough year for CVS! Hope no one loses there job!
