Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Smaller stores, more tools, and appliances and less clothing- is that really the way out?

Wow, is that the brilliant strategy? Don't see any benefit in copying other chains in that field that is, btw, also struggling and trying to survive in the market. Tools and appliances were always a good segment of Sears’s retail. But I don’t think that the key to the survival of new Sears is becoming a tool and appliance retail company.

@1hrc- The Craftsman line made by Stanley/BD is made in America The Craftsman line that is in Sears is made in China. Remember when SHC sued the maker of the tools because they would not ship them anymore? Those were the Craftsman tools made in China.

Sears Craftsman has gone to sh-- in recent years. Stuff made in the 70s still works. Stuff sold now is sourced from China. Cutting corners is what Eddie does, but anyone who worked for Sears could have told you that.

Excuse me Mr HL ASM...yes, appliances do have high margin. Not as high as Mattresses at around 50% but average 35% with a lot more volume is what makes money for the store. PAs are very profitable as well but not the only thing holding Appliances up.

@1hrc Appliances are not higher margin products. You have to sell the pa's to make any money for the store. That's why they push them so much. If you sold just appliances without the pa's you would go out of business. By the way I'm an ASM Hardlines in Sears.

Lower costs via smaller stores, higher margin items, yeah I know you probably don’t understand retail, living in your moms basement and day trading and all, but that is how u succeed in retail.

Lowes carrying “knock off” craftsman has been a boom for our store. Lots of people coming in telling us the craftsman at Lowe’s is cheap junk. I went there and checked it out and I agree. Not near as nice as the stuff Eddie is selling SMDH, was shocked by that after reading all the garbage on here I figured it would be the other way.

Had someone bring in one of the Lowes craftsman v20 tools, already spun. He Tried to warranty it, I showed him our new 20v tools(much more heavy duty and substantial) he bought ours and said “I’m taking this sh*t back to Lowes and shoving it up the managers a$$” he felt that Lowes was going to ruin the good craftsman name on purpose to try to drive sears out of biz.

I think we’re gonna make it, most of my coworkers agree. Not sure why u guys don’t see it but whatever

With Craftsman tools now being sold at Lowes and elsewhere, there is less of a reason for hardline shoppers to go to Sears....especially since Lowes also carries alot of other products that Sears discontinued over the years.....lighting, plumbing, storm doors, etc etc...

You could also add a pole, and put a girl in a g-string to dance on it, you'll definitely get more men shopping there!!

A Bank, A Foodcourt, An Insurance company, Hip pop-up shops, an inexpensive clinic...

In additon to the Kenmore and Diehard, what would get me to go into Sears would be all of the above.....

A foodcourt with carts and cooks from Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia.... a lot of people would like that... and then while where there let's make a deposit at the Sears bank.....

The bread and butter of hardlines was lifetime tools, equipment, and new homes. No one trusts Sears will be around anymore to service them, so that business has really dried up. Eddie is delusional if he thinks that business is coming back. Businesses aren't exactly clamoring to come to lease old Sears space either. Building a brand new customer base in an old Sears in 2019? Are you kidding? The good malls are good because they don't have an old dying Sears in them.
