With all the venting about "ALL IS GROSS" it is terrific to read that a couple of sixty something year old former colleagues have been able to secure positions at other companies, that there is indeed value shown for someone with years of experience!! I was RIF'd after 26 years, and am only in my mid 50's.

Please remember, amidst the toxicity and negativity to take good care of yourselves. Just because AIG has not shown appreciation, it doesn't define you. Many years ago, AIG was known as a great place to hone your skills, while salaries were not competitive, the experience provided for building a great resume. Use this to your advantage! I was laid off 4 months ago at age 62. 28 years at AIG meant nothing. I found a new job within 5 weeks

At 63 well done! I was kicked out at 63 so this is encouraging least co could do is enhance packaged for folk so close to retirement to help you inch way to it. Aig used to pay well. With 10 yrs if no raises. Whole free world passed it by. Even welfare and social security gave increases.

I finally got a great job after 8 years. No chance of getting RIF'd. I'm 63 and life goes on after AIG. This company now offers nothing I would recommend. My friends there agree with me. Thank you 175 Water St for all you have done to improve company morale.

AIG is still living in 2008. You would think the Great Recession never ended. It is their mindset and why they continue to constrict any expansion. They left a lot of premium on the table with the Bermuda Reinsurance purchase. Running a company in their business without diversifying and loosening up their underwriting guidelines sets the stage for more lackluster earnings or losses. I pity all the hard working employees who live in fear each day. Get out while you can. This is the best job market since 2007..

It absolutely is age descrimination. Most people i knew were 55ish. So hard to get another job at that age and they werent poor performers. And cant retire yet. Im 63 got the boot. And absolutely not at top pay. I was there 10 yrs so didnt start during golden years of high salaries and real raises. Geez every co hit in 2008 resumed raises after a year or so. Not this place

I was laid off and had to sign the waiver. Being over 40 they have to provide a list of all employees in your division subject to layoffs with their age and job title. Every single person that laid off was in their late 40s and up. Every. Single. One. How is the NOT age discrimination?

I signed that disgraceful waiver cause i couldnt wait to get out of there. Ill bet it wouldnt stand up in court. Because when youre ambushed like that and told u have 1 minute to get out -so classy- youre in shock. And i didn't get 4 xtra wks!

AIG requires you to sign the Age Discrimination waiver in exchange for your severance plus 4 weeks. The problem is that is precisely what they are doing. No one retires from AIG. They get RIF'd ahead of time.

If i was in my mid fifties, i wouldnt stick it out. Do u want to get rifd at 63? At least now you stand a better chance of getting hired and racking up enough yrs at new job to vest save learn regain respect and also maybe be grandfathered in if new co freezes benefits like aig loves to do.

Depends on several factors. If you are young then you should definitely be out there looking. However, if you only have a couple more years until you get to the finish line, then you can certainly state your case to your supervisor but at the end of the day stick it out and then leave....I am in my mid 50’s and that is what I am doing
