New “ground breaking” announcement

Change Healthcare made a major announcement yesterday. All Americans (ahem, patients) are now able to access interoperability services (aka their data) FOR FREE. You know - because they weren’t able to do that before. I don’t know about everyone else, but I am paying monthly installments to just access my data, so this being free now is gonna make me switch to Change Healthcare. Oh wait - it doesn’t work that way? You mean my provider has to BUY CHC’s solution for me to access my data? And then all my other providers have to too? And this would require all physicians and hospitals to too? Oh... so not all Americans are able to use this for free? Nope. Not at all. This is like saying “All Americans are able to have free healthcare, and your physician and nurses and hospital are gonna pay for it!”. Genius!!!!!

I get that you need to stay relevant guys, but this is downright embarrassing to imply this is anything new and groundbreaking. Really guys? Really? Change my mind...

Epic could essentially have the same pitch. “All Americans have FREE access to their health data via MyChart”. Of course, that requires the given provider to have Epic (buy it), and all relevant providers have Epic too, but all Americans have access to it FREE OF CHARGE!

The catch with Change’s announcement, as long as that provider purchases services from Change, their patients will have FREE access to it. It’s kind of funny because no patient actually pays for their data today. They pay for the care. The provider pays for the technology that enables the access to the data related to the care.

Agreed that this whole charade is a funny one. It’s rather elementary and Change is acting like it’s some big deal. Marketing ignorance at its best!

Change Healthcare’s intelligent data platform coupled with AI and the blockchain and the machine learning and robotics process automation and buzzy buzzwordism stuff can help cure cancer because of the automation and things. Oh and we now are gonna offer everyone in America access to that data so they can know what causes it. It’s so simple! Duh!

Ha! I saw a few Change employees sharing that on LinkedIn and thought the same thing. Just marketing noise and trying to stay relevant. Nothing more than that. I am kinda curious to know how they explain the value prop when pressed.

This is hilarious. Might as well have written an article to announce that patients have free access to go window shopping. The only catch is that the stores have to pay for their store and the contents within the window, but everyone in America has access to window shop!
