He owns the old company and the new company. What difference does "stepping down" make? He still calls all the shots

SHLDQ is just a shell company of worthless leftovers. Everything that was Sears Holdings that had any value is now owned by Eddie/ESL and known as Transform Holdco LLC.

He’s not going to stay on the board of the dead carcass, he got what he wanted.

Ditto. Exactly! Mission accomplished. Now he can continue to "liquidate" on his terms. More store closures and layoffs is a near certainty.
