Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Spans and Layers...oh my!

The department I'm in performs layoffs in January. Now, in February the department is touting a reorganization whereby several employees are being 'promoted' to management to report to the managing director. These employees most definitely don't deserve management promotions.

Obviously, this is to garner the minimum number of reports the director requires per Charlie's Spans and Layers rule. What is the purpose behind Charlie's effort if these managers are circumventing it. Charlie should really make HR focus on eliminating people in management positions during the upcoming rounds.

I'm sure this is all part of the strategy - promote people to management positions that can be easily eliminated in the next wave of layoffs.
