Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Question - timing of things

Does anyone know when/how long ago management was told they have to pick the people they are going to get rid of? I feel like I've been set up. I took a lateral move in August but the entire time i was there especially in the training process I felt like I was being set up for failure which led to being laid off.

Why does everyone think this is something new. This has been going on forever. You can Exceed Expectations every year but you'll never get it because only a select few can get it overall (a %).

The same also holds true for those receiving Below Expectations.

Now this has been going on since end of last year. Many were let go in late Oct. early Nov. This is just a continuation.

Now I can honestly say this is the most it's happened to and in the quickest amount of time.

Charlie did state in one of his Town Halls last year there could be a 20% cut of workforce world wide. Well folks it's upon us.

@X9piL32 it’s rea interesting what you said about the performance reviews. I was on disability from October until Jan 4, and received a below expectations. It was primarily due to my second half performance. Except, late summer my mental health began to decline and affected my performance, which I told my manager that it was. Then, October onward, I was gone. So I got a below expectations for about two months of performance, which I did still perform during some. For my review, she was saying complaints I’d NEVER heard about or brought up before. Like outta nowhere. Pretty sure I’m on the block. Just wish they’d do it.

Thanks so much for that info. I wish I would have been on this site back then! They definitely falsified my review and wouldn't give me any real answers as to why I was being given below expectations they threw me to the wolves I only got a third of what I needed in training and the rest was piece meal. I tried to appeal and of course they threw it back on me. I have a call into a lawyer as we speak. I don't want my job back but I really feel like I was targeted.

You're likely spot on about the setup. I've been posting here anonymously and alerting people internally at our company since October. I advised people to print all past performance reviews in preparation for a possible action against the company for the falsifying of employee performance evaluations to justify inept management decisions that afforded them cover to keep their friends employed while eliminating performers who should have been rated as meets target. There was never a fair and balanced evaluation of who was targeted for layoffs. The company did not use a singular, unbiased format to determine criteria. Once they reduce the severance package, which is coming, I encourage people to decide whether 1 week SUB pay is enough compensation to sign away your Legal rights to be a participant in a class action. It's certainly not enough for me and I wont be signing any SUB package less than the industry standard of 2 weeks for each year of employment as is currently offered at BNYM.
