Apple stuck with Intel modems after Q refused

With apple building their own modem teams and still looking to Qualcomm as a second source, the future of Intel modem business appears bleak.

It seems like the modem business was a poor strategic decision due to the volatile nature of the modem market. Modems cannot survive as a standalone product. They function better as value additions to a mobile soc. Without an Intel mobile soc, the modem business is heavily reliant on the whims of a picky customer.

How long do you think it will take for the PEG to cut their losses and abandon ship ?

The writings were on the wall when they announced stop making SoC in April 2016. There was only a single customer and they failed to add another one since then.

I insist that buying the arrogant but incompetent Infineon wireless team was a mistake, not sure the senior management was aware that their products were simply inferior to their competitors, let alone they didn't even have a 4G modem at the time of acquisition.
