With apple building their own modem teams and still looking to Qualcomm as a second source, the future of Intel modem business appears bleak.
It seems like the modem business was a poor strategic decision due to the volatile nature of the modem market. Modems cannot survive as a standalone product. They function better as value additions to a mobile soc. Without an Intel mobile soc, the modem business is heavily reliant on the whims of a picky customer.
How long do you think it will take for the PEG to cut their losses and abandon ship ?
