I work for the longtime struggling store, and I just quit today! I had 22 years, but it seems my dream of making it to 25 is now over. Guess what too, I DON'T CARE!! I started out being treated like I was a favorite employee, then the last 5 to 10 or so years it turned into a nightmare! Customers became more disgruntled, management started treating us like slaves. It was horrible at the end! No one knew if or when the store was going to close (still open- for now), and everyone was fearful it was going to be next every time there was a meeting with the district manager. I'm out, I'M FREE! I'M SOOO FREE!! I felt like stripping and running around nude in the store, but didn't want to end the night in jail, so I just gave my manager my 2 week notice, and told her I'm out! It was so uplifting, because it feels like a 10 ton weight has been lifted off my shoulders! To those others who've recently lost your job, I'm joining you as another jobless sap! May god help us all in these tumultuous times!

I don't know how bad it was with OP, but if you had a back up plan than your good if not UI was the next step. My store just closed over a week ago (I was let go this past Friday). I filed for UI. I am also on the process for another job that I hope happens soon.
Overall its going to be a good move OP its just a toxic environment at the store nothing is getting better its just so bad overall.
I quit after 27 years ,I didn't completely replace my income due to economic conditions in my area. But now that 10 ton elephant needs to find a new chump to hitch a ride on . it,s sad that after 27 years with one company my only regret is I did not leave ten years ago.

I did what you did 3 years ago. I now make three times the income I used to make with SHLD!
I would have waited then gotten UI. Can't get Unemployment if ya quit I think.
