Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Chicago stores

What’s up with the Chicago area stores? DuPage and Loyola store manager positions are both posted. There’s always store manager postings in this region. It seems to have a lot of turnover. Is it more pressure because they are close to the home office?

Another game stop friend. Just what Follett needs.

Regional just promoted the brand new Loyola Water Tower manager to the Lakeshore store. He’s been with Follett for 4 months. Remember when you had to put in your time in one store before being promoted? Wasn’t it at least a year in one store before receiving a promotion? Doesn’t seem very fair to the people who were previously told they had to wait.

Managing a Follett store does not compare to a typical retail manager position. Follett manager does EVERYTHING, many times with out an ASM, text manager, OP and only pt cashier's. Low salary, long hours, lack of HO support. No wonder there are soo many manager positions open. Not just Chicago area!

It s---s you have to work 2 jobs. Hopefully that changes someday soon.

The only reason it’s more difficult is because of scheduling. But that’s a given if you take a typical retail job. I agree that a lot of regular PT employees at Follett stores do get spoiled with the schedule. Other than that there is so much more to running a Follett store than a typical retail store. There’s a huge operational workload associated with running a store at Follett. More than I’ve seen anywhere else.

I work Follett full time and typical retail part time. Typical retail is definitely more difficult due to hrs of operation , evenings, weekends, and holidays. Neither one is perfect , wish I got paid a working wage so I didn't have to work 2 jobs.

I agree that a lot of Follett Employees would not survive typical retail. No one in my store at least...

They weren’t let go. Whoever posted below doesn’t realize that the bulk of Follett managers came from traditional retail. And traditional retail is actually much easier at times. The whole threatening tone of “your day is coming” is ridiculous. And the attitude they’re talking about is usually festering inside as we’ve all seen Follett managers give everything they have to the campus, students, and their stores. And OP it’s not that much more pressure. You aren’t going to see higher-ups just waltz in unannounced.

Do you know for a fact they were let go or were they just sick and tired of being overworked, underpaid and short staffed with no help from current upper management?

Could it possibly be that folks are being held accountable for the first time in the region? I’m sure it’s a challenge with the old, underperforming RM still working in the region. Give the new RM a shot to make a difference. All you folks talk about how bad it is at Follett but from reading this site it appears YOU all are what makes Follett bad. I’m sure your attitudes in your jobs create a horrible environment for all of your employees. Good luck taking that attitude to a different company. Most of you wouldn’t survive traditional retail which is why your barely hanging on at Follett. Yep, your day is coming but it’s not for the reasons you may think.

Great. Because Blockbuster is exactly like Follett (eye roll). When are they going to realize that RMs should always run a store first?
