Reminds me of a fat R2D2 hope it uses HDD not flash.
Reminds me of the "Metalhead" Black Mirror episode. Creepy AF.
Robots coming to LCO
I saw the robots with my own two eyes. Contracts are 30 days to cancel, buh bye hawaiian .50. Skynet has come to Seagate NRM, what about the other locations? Sarah Connor please save us.
Machine intelligence can't help with a mature technology link HDD's. Look, Seagate still generates cash, and when there is excess cash they use it to buy a business that suggests Seagate has a future to keep the stock analysts at bay. The business doesn't have to pay off, merely distract investors. They have been doing it for a long time (remember Quinta?). HAMR serves (served?) a similar function but Re's leaving may indicate that this story is over.
I like the idea of replacing executive non-intelligence with machine intelligence. I can't imagine how it would be any worse. You could add to the list. How many hundreds of millions did we pay these people? LOL.
5) Failed integration of Evault. Millions lost.
6) Failed integration of Xyratex utterly destroying a proven successful business model.
7) Ongoing mis-managed catastrophe that is known as the integration of Dothill.
8) Failed TTM of He drives.
9) Failed TTM of HAMR drives.
10) Focus on people strategy that is incomprehensible at best.
"Seagate fired all security guards in NRM and replaced them with robots! No joke."
Security is contracted. They did not "fire" anyone and I doubt there will be any change in the contract.
They can start by using robots to replace the executives to make the major decisions like
1 Disastrous Merger with Maxtor with write off $3B and the laughably silly Attack Defend Grow strategy
2 Failed Integration of Samsung HDD
3 Disastrous SSD drive effort with an SSD collaborator change every 8 months
4 Utter failure MPG group in NRM with semi fab, engineers and equipment for a non existent memory idea
A robot would have made the same if not better decisions the top management made for a fraction of the cost. Heck, a coin toss would have yielded better outcomes
Seagate fired all security guards in NRM and replaced them with robots! No joke.
Look at how the Tesla Model 3 is changing car manufacturing. When that gets all the kinks worked out, humans won't be needed in manufacturing anymore in any significant capacity.
Seagate...the next Foxconn? How do you lay off a robot that has nothing to build?
