Mark Re is out of Seagate, major layoff next year, declining in demand, no more new innovation for Seagate, Seagate will be the next 'Sears'.

Keep wishing. Ponytail rode off into the sunset.
"He was shown the door because he could not show any possible way to make money on Hammer anytime in the next five years."
If it is really five years, it might as well be never.
"Didn’t you guys hear the CEO say already that we spend $1 billion on it and we’ve got nothing to show for it?"
No. Where did you supposedly hear this?
@WsCIHOy-2ssj. Maybe you should learn that its HAMR and not hammer.
He was shown the door because he could not show any possible way to make money on Hammer anytime in the next five years. It’s not a feasible technology compared to SSD because the cycle times and cost our way too high. Didn’t you guys hear the CEO say already that we spend $1 billion on it and we’ve got nothing to show for it? Maybe you should pull your head out of your rear ends
There is no admission by Seagate about HAMR in releasing Re. They have not said anything about HAMR. If indeed he were released because of a failure of progress, it begs the question of whether progress on HAMR is even possible. Mark Re was a student of Mark Kryder who was the original proponent of HAMR in Seagate. Re was a true believer in HAMR, so if he failed to deliver, it isn't a positive omen.
Either they already have someone to take over Re's role, or they will soon. The issue of cutting more R&D staff will probably be left to that person after they have had time to assess the situation. Immediate cuts of R&D staff could be considered a bad sign.
So in someway Seagate are admitting that HAMR isnt were it should be by releasing Mark re ? If that was the case then they wouldve released many many more people.More heads would roll.
"If Mark re was shown the door its because hes not needed, surplas to requirements."
Mark was CTO and SVP of Research and Development. This isn't a position where anyone can be "surplus to requirements" or "not needed." At best (for the future of Seagate), letting him go could be due to something that didn't involve his job, i.e. an HR issue. When you let someone go at this type of position, it is usually due to a major failure to meet objectives, i.e. future technology. Given that the only future Seagate has involves HAMR, it means nothing good for the capabilities of that technology at Seagate today.
You should follow a little bit the SSD roadmap with the qlc thing, the capacites are just crazy.
That's funny. We all know, that the demand for storage will always increase. So, since you're so smart, whom will replacing Seagate and WD? Amazon, the SEARS replacement? LOL Someone, actually needs to make the product.
Or business people with no tech sense being in charge.Either way it still looks like more bad news.
Define "working". Anything that can't make money is a waste of money. In this case., Dr. Evil's 1 billion dollars. I had to laugh at the thought of all the people getting paid to do nothing getting canned, because believe it or not, those people are better to put up with in the business than lots of other people doing a lot of something that results in losing billions and billions of dollars. This is a BUSINESS. We are here to sell products for profit. How many HAMR drives need to be sold just to get out of the 1 billion dollar hole it caused to date? And, if they get sold at a loss, it's all completely pointless, isn't it mates? Tech people with no business sense appear to be in charge.
If Mark re was shown the door its because hes not needed, surplas to requirements.More people who are getting paid for doing nothing will also be shown the door.Thats the way the company will operate in future.Gone are the days of people stealing a living.
If hamr is working, why was mark re shown the door? Inconsistent...
hamr is working, Seagate springtown at full pelt
Seagate Londonderry are employing more people. No layoffs here.HAMR looking good.Lots of new positions to be filled. Its all looking good for Seagate londonderry.
