Anyone who has worked long enough in the oil & gas sector, knows how lucrative this industry can be. Where that is why through the boom & bust, many employees come back. Although, that is if you understand the unwritten practices of the, “rules of engagement” that will make or break you. Meaning that in this industry, most employees are paid very very well. Yet, you have to keep in mind that the conditions or circumstances that drives this industry sometimes drastically changes in a short period. That an employee can find him or herself temporarily unemployed overnight sort or speak. Where if you didn’t have a plan set in place from day one, and allowed yourself to over indulge. You are in for a Big “Surprise”, and unfortunately the surprise isn’t a good one. Which means that while the industry is good, use that money wisely. My family didn’t take this industry for granted, but instead used it as an opportunity to either payoff obligations to mortgages, along with saving for those rainy days during the bust, which inevitably happens. Instead of upgrading to a bigger and more expensive home, or buying a luxury vehicle. I bought a vehicle I could afford without the oil & gas industry & worked on paying off the mortgage of the home I lived in. It’s not that we’re overly disciplined people. We just understood how working in this industry had pros & cons that could affect us either way. Where I don’t discourage anyone who temporarily loses their job, not to consider never coming back. Just make a reasonable plan from day one that will benefit your family so when another bust comes your way you can pick up the pieces in a good way & move on less stressfully.

The oil business is now about process and procedure and less with experience and skill. The low paid will benefit and the high paid will be kicked out. Low cost service gets the work.

I agree if younger get out think of the next 20 years, not the next 12 months.

Now big economies flexing muscles and advising opec and NOC what to do in terms of high production and low prices will become open market, low cost and cheap cheap cheap....... expect slb to sink like rock

Still alot of work out there but everyone seems to be overly focused on the rumors surrounding the oil prices. I hear 2019 is expected to go wild but we are a month away and everything seems so shaky with the G20 summit. But this is the time of the year that Schlumberger likes to thin out the herd and say it is based on performance when it could be any number of reasons.

They started the lay off already, so, if your manager doesn't like you or even your N+, then you need to worry, they can praise you today and kick you out the next.

If you're thinking IF the layoff will happen, then knock knock, it has begun

Good luck to all, we are the last 100k troops

Face it, the rate of being laidoff in this industry is highest compare to other, but they willinf to pay more. So sckk it all before you leave or get laid

Forget it, this industry is dying. Cities are choked with pollution and CO2 emission targets are going ballistic. The big players are happy to have a low oil price and keep over producing and shale oil is pumping like crazy.
