Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Assistance for laid off employees

I know this might be a stupid question considering this is Mattel we are talking about, but is there any assistance provided for laid off employees other than the usual, meaning the severance package?

I'm asking mostly about some kind of job counseling, retraining, something like that.

Is there a such thing?

Don't count on anything. And a severance amount will be an embarrassing number.

Regarding “doubling your severance”, you may be referring to the practice extended to Sr VPs and above, (maybe VPs as well?) where the severance was for 6 months. But if you had not yet found a job after 6 months, the severance was continued for another 6 months. Think of it this way, it was 12 months of severance but if you found another job within the first 6 months, Mattel didn’t have to pay for the remaining 6 months.

do they still have the insurance that doubles your severance if you don’t find a job by the time it runs out? if so make sure you send in the paperwork!

I was laid off from Mattel (AG) earlier this year and they provided me with a career coach through Right Management. This person will help you with interviewing & career coaching via weekly calls if you'd like. There also numerous interact webinars dealing with specific things such as LinkedIn, negotiation tactics, etc through Right. It was actually pretty helpful.

Even after being let go you are still looking for the company to help you?

That’s a sad indication that you obviously have not learned anything even after being let go. Mattel owes you nothing and you owe it nothing. Don’t be pathetic looking for more help. You’ve been s---ing on that teat long enough. Time to let go and figure it out for yourself.

I think Mattel as a company is very generous.

S--- it up. With no decent Plan B you're basically helpless. No one needs toy designers anymore- especially designers who don't even design toys.

Good luck out their losers.

A friend of mine was speaking highly of it just yesterday. If you’re affected by a lay off, I encourage you to reach out to the provided services.

Yes, there are out placement services, career coaching, resume writing services, etc. It's actually a decent package.
