Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Whats the point?

How do they expect us to be efficient and helpful to our customers? I want to take pride in my job, but I'm really just being abused. Take home pay has been slowly decreasing as our benefits get worse. No raises, and minimal raises years before. The result is my disdain for this place.

Now lets add in that all of the managers are scared and the result is lousy job performances that are affecting the whole company. I once had a good director who really cared. When the execs wanted to make cuts, he put his foot down and pointed out how we couldnt effectively do our job if those cuts were made. The result? He as pushed out of the way and a unqualified yes man was put in his place. Now that team, which I had to leave, is a mere shell of what it used to be. All the talent has left and its just become a ticket pushing group. Thats not what it is supposed to be like.

No one takes pride in their work. The mentality is to not care and just collect a paycheck. Caring hurts too much. This is a recipe for disaster. And what are they doing about it? Asking employees to set a new company vision. If our execs can't set a vision, we're screwed.

Now we're going to outsource support teams

We've done this before with horrible results. Apparently were not even doing the network right for the overseas centers which will result in several call center outages. (And other violations)

Our teams are becoming weaker by the month as more of our talent is leaving. My job is more difficult and I've lost the desire to do the job right. Boss can't do anything to make me happy. Now I'm like everyone else, just do the minimum to get it off your plate.

I'd like to care, but I have no incentive to. How are you guys making it? I can't last much longer. Tired of lying managers and this depressing company. I just want a good team.

I can do quality work because I am the one responsible for me. My professional reputation is in tact because I keep it that way. My resume is always up to date because that’s reality. If I get whacked In a lay off I’m not crying any crocodile tears. But I’m not going to start slacking and use a screwed up corporate culture to justify it. That’s just plain BS.

" the rest of us who still are professional and try do quality work"

Doesn't matter. You will also get booted, they don't care how 'professional' or how much 'quality work' you do - how can you do quality work if there is already nobody left?

Wake up and update your resume - but this is probably from TT or his Zombie minions.

Nice try.

So all you sad sack slackers who have your feeelings so hurt by the company do the rest of us a favor and hit the bricks. Because I’ll tell you the rest of us who still are professional and try do quality work regardless of the upper management stupidity don’t need the extra aggravation.

If it’s any consolation upper management wants to ride this donkey as slowly into the ground as possible. Why not find a position that has a high chance of not being outsourced or being eliminated and enjoy the ride with them? I have been doing this for years. No pay raises or benefits but the pay is great and you barely have to work. Put in 4 hours of solid work a week and then just coast like they do. Zero stress and if you have been around a while tons of vacation days and good odds at a “work” from home option.

When it is time to move on you need to take control of yourselves and do just that. I left over a year ago, took less money (not a priority for happiness) and am thoroughly enjoying a new 2nd career. My point is each of us can do what YOU want. Make your moves for yourselves and family. You won't look back with any regret. Good luck to all.

The wearing of shorts by technicians in the southeast was stopped in late summer so that point was nullified.

In response to the original post... I feel the same way. I’ve been with the company since the Alltel days. I used to have pride in the company I worked for. Worked hard, moved up... now I want to cry every morning when the alarm goes off. There is no more morale... there is no more positivity, there seems to be no hope. I’m just showing up until they tell me not to. I’ve lost all respect for the executives... the outsourcing proved they don’t care about our customers. Yet, they act like they do and want us to. News flash... LEAD BY EXAMPLE! I’m worn out... burnt out and basically p-ss-d off. I’ve devoted many years to this company. And where I live, there isn’t any available jobs with other companies that pay what I make. It s---s waking up every single morning ... talking yourself off a cliff just to go to work.

I almost thought that I had maybe written this myself last night while i was self medicating my depression from working at a place where nearly all have more or less given up. My integrity keeps my work neat and defendable... but I’m not rushing to do more just because you laid off everyone and outsourced. You want outsourced terrible quality? You got it, now live with it. IBM tried this for a decade too and it didn’t work so well.

I think your post sums up where a lot of us are. You'll always have the rear end kissing folks on stream who act orgasmic over everything TT posts, but the majority are burned out and just doing enough to get by. There is no career vision anymore. It's been replaced by "just pay me" and screw it. We've seen so many departments outsourced meaning our coworkers are let go so someone in India I can't understand can have a job. It's a joke and even TT knows it. He puts on a BS show because he has to, but in reality he's just hanging on as long as he can to collect as many millions as he can.

You sound like you could have some integrity. This isn't the company for you.
