Thread regarding Sears layoffs

What’s your strategy for dealing with the crowds Thanksgiving Day

I’m wondering if they will assign everyone to appliances and the tool department to cash out the long lines of customers clamoring for that one washer and dryer set or that screwdriver set that never arrived but is in the ad, since there sure isn’t anything in the ad exciting in softlines at sears

Can’t believe how heavy on the appliances this years ad is..

I personally am not inspired to shop at sears this year!

Remembering in years past the nice down comforters for $29.00 still use mine and how people rushed up the escalator for the great prices on tvs, how fun it was back then..

People coming in to get the $4.99 proctor silex grinders, and now our small appliance area is in such sad shape, not fully stocked or signed at all, it use to be an important part of Black Friday sales what happened or is it just my store

Now, well it is just painfully depressing to be where nobody shops anymore..

@xpp - I worked for Sears long after the "Satisfaction Guaranteed or Your Money Back" motto went away but I did notice that the vinyl lettering of this motto was intentionally removed at some point. My guess is that this happened after the Kmart merger. All that was left was the outline of the vinyl lettering which you could still see if you looked carefully enough. I noticed it at three other Sears stores. It is not a coincidence, that's for sure.

@1ymi - Mix the creamer into your coffee at the coffee shop. Don't bring it into the store and spill it everywhere. Also, you should be enjoying that coffee in the breakroom, not the mattress department. Remember, no food or beverages on the salesfloor!

Just make sure it's not the mattress I had a creamy accident on yesterday.

My strategy will be to go to mattresses and take a nap. No one is coming to this s-hole and crowds won't be a problem.

Were you the PR Manager for Montgomery Ward as well? Seriously, that was the largest bucket of horse squeeze I've seen since the rodeo came town. Posts like that gives me the "I can't wait until Sears closes it's doors" feeling just to shut ignorance like that down. Posts like this only gives dedicated employees false hope and makes them think Sears/Kmart still has a chance. Then they stick around waiting for the comeback. Everyone, please leave....get out now. Go to a company that appreciates it's employees and invests in it's future...don't listen to this stupidity!!!!!!

"Our goal is to emerge as a member-centric company, reorganized around a smaller platform of profitable stores, with the capital needed to allow us to prosper in the future."

When I first went to work for Sears--a long time ago, to be sure--our motto was written over every entrance: Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back. Sure a few folks took advantage of that policy, but for the most part it served us well. Seems like if you have to SAY it, you can't really DO it. No wonder this leaky vessel is going down.

"Chapter 11 is a tool used by companies like ours to protect ...." WOW, ok Sears management LACKEY.

"We do not anticipate any impact to your wages and benefits: We intend to pay your normal wages and continue benefits without interruption."

.....what a JOKE. Today is my last day at Sears. One big reason... as a daytime professional, Sears gave me the opportunity to make extra income. During Black Friday weekend and December, I would make decent money to justify the hard work. Black Friday would be 15k in sales (L&G-tools) and $300+ in commission) All I am now is a glorified cashier, selling a very occasional snow blower and a lot of clothing. Piece commission was taken away over a year ago, so the only opportunity I have to increase my wage is PA's on snowblowers and tractors. NordicTrack pulled the fitness equipment PA's. Forget the credit card apps. I have refused to push them hard. There are so many SHADEY ways my co-workers have come up with to get 2 apps from many members... and management accepts it for METRICS. $24-26/hr a couple years ago to $12.00/hr flat wage and very few options to increase. Not good enough to stick around. But all is well per the propaganda Anonymous sears management staffer posting, above.

Werzfs4......Towing the company line with their head in the sand.....writing a multi paragraph thesis that really said nothing of substance given the current state of the company.

We are pulling in 34 people to open for this great day. Surely there will be more than 15 customers this time.

The last decent Thanksgiving at the store I worked at was 2014. Lots of crowds. Had to use a ticket system for electronics because there were so many people. There were lots of crowds elsewhere in the store like tools, apparel, housewares and appliances. Sears literally needed all hands on deck (at least at my store) because it really was busy. The parking lot was very full. Every hardlines department had cashiers to ring because we were too busy selling to bother with the register. I recall doing almost $8k my first hour and ending the night at around $15k. Then it dwindled into nothing, year after year. It dropped off noticeably with the loss of electronics.

Last year, I recall the entire store ending the night at a pathetic $11k. The sad thing is that as of last year, Sears still required "all hands on deck" even though we were all standing around twiddling our thumbs after about the first hour. There was no reason to have everybody there because there were no customers to serve. I personally used the whole night the last few Thanksgivings to clean and straighten since it was so mind-numbingly boring and depressing.

No retailer of significance who went bankrupt survived long after exiting Chapter 11

Chapter 11 is a tool used by companies like ours to protect the value of their businesses and operate as usual while they work to fix their business and address their liabilities. It is an orderly, proven process. Many prominent companies and brands have gone through this process and emerged stronger than ever.

Our goal is to emerge as a member-centric company, reorganized around a smaller platform of profitable stores, with the capital needed to allow us to prosper in the future. We are eager to move forward quickly and preserve as many jobs as possible. I want to make sure that all of the hardworking associates of Sears Holdings and the dedicated members of our Shop Your Way program know that we are committed to trying to get the best possible result for the company - and for all of you.

We're open for business: Our Sears and Kmart stores, and online and mobile platforms, are open and continue to serve our members and customers. Our services and brand businesses will also operate as usual.

We do not anticipate any impact to your wages and benefits: We intend to pay your normal wages and continue benefits without interruption.

Our member programs continue: We remain committed to providing our customers and members with trusted service. Our loyalty programs, including the Shop Your Way membership program, warranties, protection agreements, and the Sears and private label credit card rewards programs continue as normal.

We do not anticipate any impact to vendor payments: We intend to pay our vendors in the ordinary course for all goods and services provided on or after the filing date. We are committed to working with our vendors and other partners to help maintain inventory levels, ensure timely product delivery, and continue contracted services.

We will continue to take action to streamline our store base: We will close 142 additional unprofitable stores near the end of the year. These locations are being notified.

I very much appreciate your hard work and ongoing commitment through the upcoming holiday season and beyond. Thanks to your efforts and the proactive steps we are taking, we look forward to Sears Holdings emerging stronger than before.

If you look at most of the Sears 1* reviews, it's because 1) only one associate is Manning a register on the entire floor 2) every time Sears has more than 3 people waiting to checkout 3) every person gets signed up for SYWR 4) and after they get tired of waiting to buy a pair of underwear or whatever, they swear never to come back. Everyone else is complaining about their deliveries that never get delivered and their repairs that need get done. All of the foot traffic problems have been self inflicted by corporate policy driving customers away.

Maybe they should have featured Crockpot and Coffee Makers which is all they carry in small appliances these days.
