Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Extra income (non IBM work)

Been looking for some extra income - there are some opportunities on Upwork or externally (one of them would make me a contractor for Microsoft)... Anyhow, does that conflict with our IBM contract as a salaried employee?

It's not coding or anything, it's more like rating the accuracy of advertisements and search results.

Tons of people do it because IBM does not pay enough to live on.

Income requirements for apartments can be in the mid $50's in some markets and we all know IBM does not pay everyone over $50k a year so where does IBM expect you to do? On the street?

Non competing work agreements are only for level C employee's, not for typical IBM grunts.

Modified quotes from the Pacific mini-series:

Ex-IBMer: Whatcha doin', IBM Employee?

IBM Employee: Thought I'd latch on to a side gig

Ex-IBMer: You don't want to do that!

IBM Employee: Why not? I know you did it.

Ex-IBMer: Don't! You shouldn't do it.

Ex-IBMer: You'll get IBM Germs.

IBM Employee: IBM Germs?

Ex-IBMer: Bad IBM Germs. HR consequences that'll take your money and make you sick.

IBM Employee: Bad IBM Germs.

Ex-IBMer: Just don't do it

BCG specifies discussion with MGMT chain for ok. The phrase that will step on your dreams is you can't work for a competitor in any form. If not clear competition, then if ibm has or can go into that line of work.
