I visited my old store that I worked at from February 2011 to May of this year and was talking with a former coworker who is still there. He told me that the handful of seasonals that were hired are now gone and that nobody has replaced them. He also said that they are not ready for Black Friday because of this. They are almost a month behind on truck.
I also was told that several long-timers quit from all over the store (softlines, tools, appliances, back room) right after BK announcement and everybody left over is doing everything in the store since nobody seems to be applying. Everybody who is left is working 40 hour weeks but that can only go on for so long before they have to be considered full time.
I get that people aren't exactly going to be lining up for a job of a company that just filed for BK but I still cannot understand how a store is supposed to function without people or how this company is going to make it without people because fourth quarter is really make-or-break for Sears. How many other stores are dealing with the same issue? Are the stores even ready for Thanksgiving/Black Friday and the rest of Q4, or are other stores just running on fumes and hoping for pure luck?
