Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Herald Article

I see the Calgary Herald has named AlPo "Alberta's Business Newsmaker of 2018". What kind of a BS title is that? Should be called top whiner of 2018. I wonder how much CVE paid to get that article in the paper. It appears AlPo loves the media spotlight as much as his predecessor.

Funny how the article fails to mention that CVE made the 2018 Global Top Ten Worst Places to Work list.

If the mgmt stopped doing things to demoralize the employees they would not fee the need to post and the whining would decrease and slowly die out. These guys keep going at the employees bit by bit thus keeping sites like this active. They are their own worst enemies.

I too am tired of the grumbling on here. Hey guys, guess what? You will be happy to know that no one is making you stay! I’m sure the company would be happy to let you polish up your resume and move on .... heck someone might even help spell out the big words for you.

I agree with the comment about the yellow vests, and lending your voice at some of the local rallies, and sharing factual information on social media. Either way ... those will have a much better effect on our industry than whining on this site. And before some wizard makes the comment ... No I am not part of HR or Comms. I am just a proud employee who wants good things to happen for our company and our industry.

You know if you want to go out and make your voices heard, why don’t you go buy a yellow vest (if you don’t already have one), and get out there. This anonymous whining is not helping this industry and it’s getting rather old.

It becomes increasingly clear that the company is run by communications when the only thing your new CEO does is show up in every media opportunity. Or maybe that’s the new business model everyone should aim to copy.. just talk and talk, no one will notice that you’re actually doing nothing meaningful. I really hope Cenovus is bought out and every single VP/EVP, board member and especially our clueless CEO who dances to the tunes of the VP of communications and the failed SVP of failed strategy is given the boot.

AlPo wines to the government and they mandate production cuts. Integrated companies pay the price for alpos failure to integrate. Then he keeps a team of incompetence and gives them big fat bonuses while reducing everyone else’s. Tell me again how great AlPo is, cause from the cheap seats (carpet cubes) it’s pure fiction

I think Alex is better than Ferg for sure.

Problem is he is surrounded with the same subpar leadership as Brian. He’s getting the same bad advice from the same self absorbed individuals who only look after themselves. Sadly Alex seems to be buying their story and that’s easy to see with the VP promotions and bonus reductions for almost everyone but leadership. No staff surveys required because there’s no need, they know the vast majority of staff are not happy and they don’t care. You don’t get top ten worst company to work for by accident. Love the recent fake HR reviews.

My guess, CVE knows what they are doing and are trying to get a certain % to leave so they don’t have to give packages and make news for more layoffs. It’s a somewhat smart strategy saves money and whoever is left will sit there, collect a pay check, and just shut up. If that’s what Bangs wants it’s what she will get and Alex will be stuck with.

Alpo talks too much but does very little positive

Fergie and him are not good. We are now slaves of WC price. Conoco asset sale was a mistake. Should have purchased downstream or overseas assets that have value.

Deep basin assets will save CVE.

Don’t confuse newsmaker with astute business man. Without a doubt he is a newsmaker.

AP is a far better CEO than Ferguson ever was. Never once saw Ferguson stand up for this company in public or walk the floors and take hard questions from employees.

It was Fergie that bought into that Conoco mess and paid too much doing it.

Spin it against him all you want, but AP speaking out was a positive thing for the company. He is sticking up for Alberta industry when very few C-suiters in this town can't be bothered. One of the few things he did right (no i'm not HR or CVE mgmt).
