Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Another 911 outage - the FCC will fine WIN a lot - again.

Maybe WIN shouldn't have outsourced their many groups - they wouldn't have these 911 outages that the FCC will look into and more than likely fine them for not following a easy fix that could have prevented this? Their 911 routers were old hardware that wasn't supported anymore, and the engineers were dragging their feet on getting them replaced, not surprised on these outages.

Good way to save money TT.

One day the FCC is going to ask about the staffing situation and how many technicians maintained WS network. How many obsolete network elements are deployed and why they were allowed to cause someone to loose their life. The answers to these two questions will put someone in prison plus heavy fines. Guaranteed.

"They let their e911 guru in the ERC walk to another company not surprised"

Hopefully they didn't go to Centurylink - cause of their 911 outage was a 'bad card'

They are more than likely in the same boat as WIN with most of their knowledge base having been outsourced as well - and it was probably half the day gone when they realized there was something wrong, and again then taking another half day to call for support...

"I really hope these aren't the people the customers are having to deal with."

With most groups having their support groups being outsourced to India - name_your_country, these are more than likely the 'face' of the company. More so for operations support - with these outsourced groups not being allowed to think on their own, the field technicians are rolling in the dough from mindless callouts, but the simple common sense is lacking in these outsourced groups as they are not allowed to use common sense. They are robots that do just one thing, and one thing only.

If you want the answer to the cause of the outage, you will more than likely need to talk with the senior tech - if they haven't also been outsourced - or the lead tech.

With the confusion before the outsourcing began with all the companies WIN 'acquired' but could never properly assimilate the various network databases, it has to be so much worse now.

I think it's funny, we outsourced this stuff to a group if people who seem to be able to speak english, yet have idea of how to comprehend what was said to them.

One day someone reached out to me and I told them three times what was done to fix the issue and after each time they replyield back with, "but what did they do to fix it?" I just told you they:

  1. Bounced a card in the transport equipment .

  2. Switched the ring to protect.

  3. Reslotted the card.

I really hope these aren't the people the customers are having to deal with.

"Was this possibly part of centurylink's bigger outage? Or just a coincidence?"

WIN's outage was restored Thursday afternoon, while CL's was just starting...that area has a history of 911 equipment issues...

So now the default is to blame outages on lack of competence with the outsourced teams?

Because WIN never had outages while everything was in-house.

Because WIN never had EOL hardware deployed in the network while everything was in-house.

Because WIN always had the best techs on every issue, both in the field and in the NOCs while everything was in-house.

Not surprising, typical lack of competence. Always in react mode.
