December is not safe for contractors. I am one and I know there's more. Contracts are not being renewed. Not being actively frog marched "out the door" but just left to expire at midnight 12/31/18.
Exactly. It's not what you'd consider a regular layoff, but the end result is the same. People are out of a job at the end of the year.
I am a contract employee and was told on 12/26 I was furloughed and to return on the 2nd of 2019. I was told ALL contract employees were “furloughed” for the same length of time.
The contractors in my group were extended until the end of 2019
Seems contractors were furloughed until January 2nd. Not sure how widespread but I got a call from my contract house saying I'm on a little unpaid vacation until the 2nd
Contract is not cheaper in most cases, its just easier to let people go. When I have worked on conversions one of the justifications is it usually saves Xerox money.

Contract Employees just all have been renewed in our building throughout August 2019. For I am one. I have been here for 10 years. This really means nothing! Being contract you know it can end at anytime any moment you can be let go. Been told it’s cheaper for Xerox than permanent employees. Contract’s have no benefits at all. I have been told We are an expense not a head count. The longer you are contract less Xerox pays the agency. Wishing the best for everyone in these troubling times.
You might be surprised just how many long-term contractors are and have been floating around Xerox for years.
That of course is always a risk of being a contract. I never want to see anybody out of a job, but I'd rather see an employee's job saved vs a contract. In general, a contract is supposed to be a shorter term position anyway, though I realize it isn't always the case.
