Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Chief People Officer on the hub

Read the Q&A with the useless position that is the chief people officer on the hub from Dec. 18. Someone in the comments section had it in them to call out the garbage that is going on. Great post. Then, of course, a corporate crony in the business agility group responds with nonsense and condescension. He surely got his feathers ruffled.

Wow, yesterday I was feeling down in the dumps because I got laid off in December and haven't found anything yet. Today I woke up, found out I wasn't laid off at all--only made redundant--and now the world is all puppies and rainbows and flowers and happiness again! Yay!

Would you please tell the dude in the Toronto tech center for me and all the redundant ones that he's a forking id--t? Thanks! :)

There is a dude in the Toronto tech centre that is a major brown noser and a horrible evesdropper. Way before any of the reorg happened, a bunch of us were talking about layoffs that had started and he was evesdropping and interrupted us to say “well, let’s not call them layoffs, they are redundancies”. We all paused and then someone said “I’m sure that word makes the people who are made ‘redundant’ feel much better about the situation.”

It just amazes me how there is an abundance of boot lickers around. I’m not gonna lie, I won’t feel an ounce of pity if and when his time comes when he is one of the “redundancies”.

Ya I couldn’t stomach any of their Christmas blessings. Literally gave me knots as soon as I opened it I took a quick glance and closed them. Can’t be bothered reading insincere wishes. I’m not a mo--n. I don’t like being lied to. Do they really think we are all that stupid? Yes bravo for him speaking up

I love this line: "We have had to say goodbye to many valued members of our team." Ummm, if they were so valued, why did we have to say goodbye? The whole post is a bunch of spin. And yes, the guy who chimed in that the process was poorly planned and soul crushing is very brave.

The RK holiday video - It made no sense to me until I had it translated. Here's the translation of what General Sir Anthony Cecil Hogmanay Melchett really said:

"Greetings to all you mindless sheep. Baaa. I did quite a lot of blogging, travelling and eating this year, and because I worked so hard, I treated myself by cashing out options. I am quite proud of myself. I made so much money! Oh wait, let me explain what options are since the rest of you don't get those. Options are additional compensation we execs pay ourselves because frankly, we can. This year, Lady Melchett and I have an ample amount of money to celebrate this year in grand style. If you saved your pennies carefully, you might be able to celebrate as well. For those of you losing their jobs right before the holidays please return all company equipment, including all pencils and note pads. For those who still have a job today, maybe your wish to Father Christmas should be to have one after the first of the year! Be prepared to work very hard in the new year while we decide how we can go about tossing you onto the rubbish heap. We may transfer your work to someone else, stop performing the function and hope customers do not notice, or outsource your job to some new low cost labor center like Myanmar. We haven't decided which will boost the share price more. We may need to retain you for one, two extra weeks at the most so that you can train your Myanmarese replacements. Any training should not require much time in that what you do requires no skill nor is it important. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go. I made a double crust pie earlier and I wish to have another slice! Season's Greetings everyone! Baaa"

This company is going down the pan. Alienating the people who can drive this company forward is not the best way to improve moral. I reckon 75% (if not more) would jump tomorrow If offered another position. Those at the top are so blind or think skinned that they cant gauge the feeling with those still left.

The condescending tone in the reply on the Hub makes me want to vomit. You'd think by now that even the boot-lickers would be upset as there are so many fewer boots available.

The vast, vast majority of people I speak with are fearful, upset and even angry. If our leaders and cronies can't see this and offer some compassion then they deserve the fustercluck that this company is becoming.

Three cheers for the gent that spoke truth to the power. I am too much of a coward to give him a ‘like.’ Actually, I have been targeted by certain managers so I can’t speak up.

To the ones who back up Management..pawns who think their Hub posts will save them.

His response to what is happening makes more sense than anything I have heard from any of the executives or front people in TR world. Bravo for him having the guts to say something. I suspect he has had enough.

I firmly expect people driving the changes are going to be gone within 3 to 5 years, cashing out or victims themselves, of another reorganization after this one fails. The next one will likely

be much worse as undoubtedly products and services in the current setup and culture will worsen or fail.

Do yourself a favor - don't overlook a good opportunity that comes your way.
