Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Now this is an excellent store owner in michigan!!

On Friday, owner Lee Schoenherr told his 200 employees he will share nearly $4 million with the full-time workers. The amounts will vary based on longevity, but the average bonus will be about $20,000 per worker, with the first installment to be made by the end of 2019.

The point of the article is that this employer really appreciates his employees to the point of giving them a handsome bonus.. unlike our CEO who cuts the employee discounts because of their own greed

It may not be the warm and fuzzy idea the OP was shooting for...but it is reality. I agree it is a very kind hearted gesture and I'm sure the owner is genuine. This will change many of these employees lives for the better. What I am saying is just a fact. He has set the bar for bonuses and anything lower will not be understood by most employees. As an owner you see your profits go up and down year over year. It would be no different if he gave everyone a 20% pay increase on their yearly eval. Each would expect the same if not more next year. If they do not...they would be upset at the company. These reductions could be from market shifts or just general slowing of the business. The employee is not concerned with this since that is not their responsibility to be aware. All they know is they worked their butts off that year and received something less than the "bar".

What a s#%tty way to look at this, nmq. This is a family-like workplace with long-term employees and they are appreciative. https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/2018/12/17/michigan-firm-christmas-bonuses/2336249002/

He has just created a monster. Now any and all yearly bonuses going forward that are less than that will be seen as a negative. Company has a bad year...employee doesn't care....they still want their $20K. Company has a fantastic year...employee expects more than $20K.
