Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

More robots- more layoffs

The company officials can try to comfort the workers with this story that automation and robotics won’t mean a reduction in jobs, but the truth is very different, more robots equal fewer jobs. I’m aware that that won’t happen overnight but it’s going to happen sooner than a lot of us think. I’ m also aware that this introduction of technology is unavoidable, but I can’t help to think that this could be done with less damage for the retail workers. If the company is that eager to automate, why don’t they offer the employees some sorts of programs to make them qualified for new jobs that will emerge with these changes?

50 years is awfully optimistic. Sears was the #1 retailer in 1991.

They will be cutting back on employees. I don’t see how they can avoid it.

If Amazon automates and Walmart refuses to do it, Walmart won’t be around another 50 years.

The only thing that slows this down is regulation. If the government levies taxes on automation that replaces human jobs such that it’s not cheaper to gave a robot do the work, then the company would only choose automation if the robot could truly do the job better.

Regulation needs to happen. But, citizens are not informed or involved enough to push it through.

Lack of planning for the labor force will result in a lot of angry desperate people with not a lot left to lose.

Historically, that doesn’t end well for wealthy people.

When i first heard this rumor..thought no way. But the way walmart is going who knows? Also been hearing that they are either going to get rid of associates 10 years or more. But also heard 20 years. Or change full time to part time. If all this is true wish they would just go ahead and tell us instead of beating around the bush.
