Thread regarding Sears layoffs

What Eddie really wants out of Sears as a "going concern"

The IRS won't let Eddie take those $11 billion dollars of carry forward losses as a tax deduction unless Sears remains in business. The problem with that idea is that it needs to stay as business as Sears, and it needs to be profitable, against, as Sears/Kmart. Now there's a few accounting tricks around this, and Eddie is probably smart enough to take advantage of them. For example, Sears could merge with ESL, or some other companies in his hedge fund. He could inject a bunch of companies into SHLD and have it acquire other companies. All that c-ap about the nearly worthless mall real estate is smoke and mirrors. He'll keep on running a few stores as long as he needs so long as he preserves those losses.

No matter how anyone feels about SHC, I would have to agree that is is very sad that sears and Kmart were allowed to be destroyed the way they were

Plenty of US manufacturing. Sears already sells pillows Made in USA, B&D are bringing back USA made Craftsman tools. Diehard batteries are made in USA. Even some Craftsman boots are made in USA.

Sears had some good quality items...just no one knows about them. Target and Walmart's merchandise are flimsy and low quality.

Anyway, I am hoping Sears can stick around. Not sure about Kmart, most of the stores I have been in are a bit disorganized and may I say it, just a bit dirty looking.

There is some great history in this company. It hard to believe they just ran it into the ground.

There's no manufacturing plants left to make anything in the USA. Electrolux for example is shutting everything down because Eddie isn't paying the bills. Eddie never intended to win the bid for the 505 stores, he was just setting a price floors. People will make their bids, and he'll make a bid for what's left over. He's been shopping around the stores aggressively for awhile now.

Makes sense.

Sears also holds over 300 patents, including the pour through top mixer (and other tool/appliance patents).

Converting a portion of the stores to "Made in USA" would be a much bigger draw. Maybe a locally made section too.

Too bad Eddie sold off Craftsman. So, will Eddie win the bid for the 505 stores?
