Don’t fire people. It’s the best way to retain their work and support. If you do lay them off, give them notice and transition the work. If not, you get what you get mo--n X.

So sorry to hear about all the layoff action at Xerox. I would not take the chance of erasing your hard drive. If you are eligible for severance pay and any Xerox data is destroyed you have a chance of losing your severance, and any retirement account savings.

There were 2 project managers that were leading a project I was working on that were let go as part of the first wave. They were remote so they got a call that morning and all access had been terminated. Their management team tried in vain for 2 weeks to piece together all of the critical project documents from their PC's.

Yes, it was hard on those of us who continued to work on the project, but if "project continuity" or "transition efforts" were a concern for Xerox they would have given them 1-2 weeks notice rather than letting them go immediately. Xerox is doing this in a hatchet style, so I have no sympathy for them, even if it affects my ongoing work.

You do realize that erasing your hard drive only makes it harder on your co-workers who are left behind, right. Icahn and Company will not be affected one way or the other.
