Why there are so many aggressive bastxxds in QC

I was a new graduate to join QC and was asked to give a presentation. Peoples in the meeting are so aggressive and rude. They constantly break my presentation. Someone folks ask questions aggressively though most of them are nonsense. Finally peoples are just talking like in a noisy party. I couldn't even complete every single slide. This is so horrible. Is this the culture of QC?

The good engineers might not be rare so much as they are getting crowded out. It's the job of the meeting lead to keep it on track. If you are presenting, you might want to take the lead and say, "this is my presentation. Let's keep discussion about this presentation." Usually people will be agreeable to that. If they can't even do that, it's time to disengage.

Regarding "Peoples in the meeting are so aggressive and rude. They constantly break my presentation. Someone folks ask questions aggressively though most of them are nonsense. Finally peoples are just talking like in a noisy party",

It has been like these for over 10 years at least. Those who keep bragging take this as an engineering social opportunity to impress high-level managers, directors, or even VPs, and climb much quicker in the ladders in getting promotion. Your qualify of work does not matter much as your voice. That is the Qualcomm culture. You can see how many emails of bragging high in the sky, and can get guess what those upper level guys are doing (no, they are not doing, instead they are just making voice/noise, with focus on politics and social connections)

If you stay a little longer, you would be able to find out sharp engineers will ask concise questions, to the points, and give you suggestions in the right directions. Nowadays those engineers are becoming more rare and rare, as many of them have jumped out already, and more are preparing to jump out, without bothering to ask.

Qualcomm noways is not the Qualcomm it used to be twenty years ago. It will become a next Motorola for sure. It is way too old to do the real work, to respond to issues, and to be competitive in engineering, and also management has become kind of MBA bragging and bragging.

Older engineers do not have too much choice in San Diego and due to kids educations issues. Younger and capable engineers are using Qualcomm as a jumping board for Apple, Google, Facebook etc.

if you are young, and feel uncomfortable with this extreme Qualcomm culture, just prepare yourself for a next career. I am not saying external worlds are ideal, but I would bet culture would not be so bad as Qualcomm now.

BTW, Qualcomm payment is only a little competitive in San Diego, but not at all outside San Diego. If you are good at politics and like it, this maybe a good place for you to practice more. But I am not sure job marketing has high demand of such kind of political engineers.

I had something presentation-related happen to me. I wanted to do something which I felt would improve our design, which was directly within my job responsibilities. RTP custom lead says, "Make a presentation of it and present to San Diego." I get asked to do a dry run for RTP first. Feedback I got was, "you can't post the negatives if you're trying to sell something." ...um...wait. Sales? I don't recall anyone telling me I was ever SELLING anything. I thought we were all grown adults here. Let alone that I have to sell anybody on the right to DO MY OWN JOB. I didn't change a thing about my presentation. It was take-it-or-leave it. They left it. Okay--less work for me.

Your presentation was likely not good, despite how talented you may be. From my experience working there, the presentation has to catch the attention of people immediately.

Just stick around 1 to 2 years then leave for a better workplace.

Don't stay too long otherwise you get bad influence and become like the bastxxrds you distain.

So you learnt your lesson, zero support or coaching for new grads at Q. Its H1Bs on temp contracts left to sink or swim. Hence the back stabbing, aggressive, self importance is #1 environment.

Quit and find an employer that values talent, new grads and has career development and coaching programs.

Go check out the 'best employers' lists; Q fell off them years ago but theres good places still.

@OP: Let's be honest, you either didn't do a good job preparing your talk, or your presentation skills aren't that good to attract the audience attention and keep them focused. It is not wrong to admit our faults and try to improve ourselves.

Qcom is a very toxic place full of mean spirited and egocentric people, I am a new graduate as well and I am leaving soon due to poor culture here. However, I highly doubt people would be that rude off the bat unless you did bad job presenting yourself, or you were very unlucky to have very bad audience, just my two cents.

From one new grad to another, get out. I will be doing the same.

Why ? The environment promotes toxic/aggressive self-serving/self-promoting behaviors.

Lots and lots of loud talking over folks is perceived as 'confidence' and 'authority'. Its a weird place to be sure.

You picked the wrong company, buddy. Qualcomm is filled with insecure know-nothings who try to hide it or make themselves look better by sabotaging others. It’s an extremely toxic environment. I left and joined a company where we have a team that works to lift up everyone else. They are also all extremely competent, which also makes a big difference, and everyone is expected to be honest about mistakes and to focus on constant improvement. It’s worlds away from that Qualcomm c-aphole.

Probably because your presentation was bad and you don't know what you're talking about.
