Combine Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot, Victoria's Secret, David's Bridal and Walmart into one company. Then eliminate all the other stores, like Ross, Target, JCPenny, Kohl's, and Lowe's because they don't exist yet or simply can't be bothered to expand into your area. It's the only big store in town, and the only place that let's you order anything you want by mail. That was Sears. Now imagine that company going bankrupt.

Once upon a time, Sears was, in its own words, “Where America Shops”.

And the ads were true, at some point I believe that 25% of retail sales were generated by Sears. The fact that there are still many people whose memories include positive recollections of Sears, coupled with the seemingly deliberate destruction of the brand, is why people are both sad and appalled at this spectacle.

"I agree. The Store Managers who didn't want to follow Eddie should have taken their stores private and then no longer had to deal with Eddie or any DVPs RVPs anyone at HE etc. Simple as that. And anyone who didn't take their store away from Sears Holdings, well, we all post our hatred toward them on this board. Afterall, all of us here know how easy it is for an SM to just take his store away from SHLD and do what we all want him to do."

Oh shut up with this drivel. Your excuse for ruining people and being a shtbag is that some other shtbag told you to.

Short answer: they f*cked a lot of people. We're talking thousands of careers destroyed over one man's greed. And most of management from SMs on up went along with it.

Sears was the company that popularized catalog orders as we know it. It brought retail to an America that had literally had no prior retail experience. It then expanded into department stores, and America's largest store, it was the store that popularized buy everything but groceries as we know it. It once was responsible for 25% of everything bought and sold in America. You bought your first doll there. You first tricycle. Your first bike. Your first clothes. Your first bra. Your prom dress. The tools you used to build your house. Maybe your house itself. Your curtains. Your wedding dress. The suit for your first job. Sears was America.

Because Kmart is the best and it can still be the best. All the anti Kmartters still won't concede that Kmart can survive as a profitable chain with 250 plus stores.
