Tesla's tech is already up and running.

Cold fusion was a major breakthrough. Until it wasn't.
Let me guess: You also thought that solar would never be a viable alternative to building more large scale power plants.
Sustained fusion for any length of time isa major breakthrough. Expect more effort to be directed to developing it, and progress to come faster and faster. All that is needed is a critical mass (pun intended).
40 years ago fusion was 40 years away. Today it is still 40 years away. In 40 years it will again be 40 years away.
@fev -GOOD ONE! Lol
Chinese seem to be making progress, correct? If it is certain that fusion is not going to be commercially viable for a long time, could GE possibly look at commercializing Tesla”s tech? Or pursue any other energy tech that is ground-breaking, practical, commercially viable, and possibly life-changing for human kind? Could GE reinvent GE Power and lead globally again?
If you’re using fusion as your heat source you would still need a steam turbine and generator correct?
Fusion is a LONG ways in the future and has been for decades.
Could you possibly manage GE Power for growth instead and get into fusion business? Or, it is too late for GE to lead, and all we have look forward to are business sales and spin-offs?
