I just read AT@T is about $180 billion in debt so who know what's gonna happen to them and especially their TV. Are they going to be the next GE and the massive stock dive? Will 5 G keep them moving forward? Our TV, Prism TV has died in 3 years. Is fiber to the home too late? It appears so from the articles posted.
Well I can GUARANTEE you that This company hasn't spent a red Cent in its rural areas in 10 years. The plant is crumbling before your eyes, as well as antiquated delivery systems . All this time you speak of ? 4 years ? That's what you think you have … 4 years … pay attention . This company does not want to serve end users any longer period. Watch them as they continue to shake off residential broadband customers...They have already capitulated POTS service in favor of Deadline . 4 years if your lucky ,at least as Centurylink. AT&T sure seems interested in overlaying Fiber in this Rural area for the last 2 years right under our noses. so someone's spending money . and its all in the air. not the norm here. Add to this the recent news from AT&T concerning "Truck Rolls" for the Direct TV department. The CFO is on record stating they have developed a new "self install" box that is going to not only eliminate the dishes, it will also eliminate Truck rolls …..let that sink in …..Sorry man 4 years maybe I see 2 I can ALREADY watch all the TV I want through my AT&T cell service. as well as wi fi hotspot for data and of course have phone...…. its already in my pocket....the "self Install box" is your arch nemesis ...our undoing It's here only a question of a short time period
Great 5 G articles guys! I'm in a very large metropolitan area but everything I've read says it will be around 2023 before things are at full throttle. As far as the rural areas go, I don't think they will put in the need resources to have a mini towers every 800 ft. or so. The focus will be on metro first anyway, unless the government steps in. I'm glad I have as many years in the industry I have and will be able to retire and move on to retirement or a part-time job that will be enjoyable before this implodes. The one question my peers have is, if everyone is on their 5 g hotspot at the same time streaming netflix, will the network be able to support this and will it be unlimited for a low price when the big dogs spend milllions putting up mini towers on light poles. How will business like banks, schools, and large corporations deploy this vs fiber optics and will there be security issues?
More for the 5G Deniers teach yourself some things, so you don't look so simpleminded !!

Depends on your area, your plant, and how much has been invested in it over the last 10 years. Many Rural areas haven't seen a dime in many years they will fall first. expect them to try and break union as the next step. So 5 years? maybe in some areas, but in many I think its bust the union and call in the "contractors". They are desperate at the rates they work for! Here's an interesting article on the subject. https://mashable.com/2017/11/30/verizon-5g-home-internet-2018/#bipDSga17qqN
Yes, I agree. How long do we have in the outside plant environment. 5 years or so?
CenturyLink isn't a part of the 5 g equation and never has been. Here in our area AT&T has been overlaying our entire county with fiber....fiber up on poles not in the ground ! HMMMMM wonder why ? No Not really. If you payed attention on the last all hands call you'd see the trees through the forest. We were told "The Company" needs to change over to VOIP !! Yes that's right they said it in the call the telephone company needs to go voip let that sink in...also mentioned no interest in providing television services and abandonment of the failed Prism...your/our new company is ONLY interested in providing BACKBONE fiber to run the new networks they are un interested in the end user...CL NEVER was a player in the new 5G revolution....ask yourselves why all of the sudden comcast and spectrum are in the cellular business as of the last few months? things that make you say Huh? Im afraid us copper jockeys are going the way of the cross bar switch and the Stingers
Right. Anyone honestly expect CTL to do a build-out that requires a new small cell about every 1000 feet?
your fu@#$ing blind if you don't see it
